Amazing location to the penguin tour! Also great location for all the views. Great to have so much privacy and to spread out more than a hotel room.

Company info

The Low Head Pilot Station is a Tasmanian Government Heritage Site with a collection of beautifully aged properties, lush lawns and direct beach access. Each house and cottage has it’s own quirks and charm, and the age and heritage status means that this experience is best for those seeking charm, comfort, rustic heritage, and waterfront living. Windows can rattle, grasses can sometimes blow in under the doors, and maintenance is frequently required on homes built almost 200 years ago, it’s part of the character that makes this place so special.

Property info

Low Head Pilot Station is the longest active Pilot Station in Australia and is still active today. Most of these heritage self-contained cottages were built in 1825 to accommodate the Pilot's, Coxswain and their families; people enjoy staying in a part of Australian maritime history. Each cottage is unique in location and layout. Low Head Pilot Station is a tourist destination in itself, within the Low Head Historic Precinct is a Tasmania National Park (where seven out of nine Cottages are located) there is a Maritime Museum and waterfront kiosk. Just a short walk from the Precinct (next to the Light Keeper's Cottage) is Low Head Lighthouse. Guests enjoy the many local beaches, an abundance of green space within the National Park, local walks, waterside views and native wildlife - penguins, wallabies, wombats and more!

Neighborhood info

Spend your days exploring Low Head, with its pristine beaches, the river, nearby wineries, farms, State and National Parks right on your doorstep. Or simply unwind in the cosy charm of the Pilot Staton historic precinct, watching the Pilots come and go, the signal flags wave in the wind and the tides rise and fall. Visit the Maritime Museum or enjoy fresh local coffee and food from the waterfront kiosk - both located on the station. By evening, watch yachts drift across the Bass Strait or listen for the call of little penguins returning to shore at dusk (penguin tours run every night). With native wildlife, including pademelons, wombats, bandicoots, and even the occasional Tasmanian devil, you’ll feel a deep connection to nature while soaking in the rich history of this unique coastal destination. Large open spaces for children to run free!
