Company info

Chris and Ting came here from the mainland in 2016 and opened the guesthouse in January 2017. Ting manages the guesthouse and Chris manages the marketing side as well as his other business interests. We are dedicated to offering our guests 4 star excellence. We love meeting people from all parts of Tasmania, Australia and the world. Part of the downstairs area of the guesthouse is our home but we keep out of sight and we welcome guests to use our dining and living room and the sunroom, rear deck with gazebo and adjoining bbq area. We have a large mod kitchen with plates, cutlery, cheese boards, glasses, cups etc. that guests can access by arrangement with us. We can offer extra fridge space as well. Some guests want privacy and stick to their rooms but for the those who like to socialise we are always open for a chat downstairs. We greet every arriving guest and offer you free freshly cooked scones with jam/cream and selection of teas and fresh brewed coffee. Guests who pay full price receive a complimentary continental breakfast and we offer a full cooked breakfast for a competitive price. Your pets are welcome and we will direct you to best places to eat/dine.

Madsen Retreat is a large Mediterranean style home sitting up on a hill with views of Penguin Beach and the town. It sits on 950 sq metres surrounded by its own landscaped lawns and gardens. It is just a 5 minute walk to the beach and main rd of Penguin. It is very quiet and relaxing. You can move freely about the guesthouse and enjoy its dining room, sunroom and outside lawns, gazebo, deck with tables and chairs and barbecue area. It has secure onsite parking. The rooms are spacious and AAA 4 star quality accredited. Its 4 rooms are suitable for people travelling alone, couples, groups and business travellers. It is pet friendly, with fully fenced space for your pets to run around in. All rooms/suites have ocean view, fully stocked mini bar, private ensuites, ceiling fans, internal heating, quality linens and towels, smart tv, free wifi, internal table & chairs, robes and slippers. The business is accredited by the Tourism Industry Council of Tasmania as a compliant quality tourism business. All rooms/suites are located on the first floor accessed by a short staircase of 15 stairs. All rooms are equipped with tea/coffee facilities, toaster and lavazza coffee machine & barfridge.

Neighborhood info

Penguin is a jewell of a place in NW Tasmania. Equidistant between Burnie and Devonport (20-30 minutes each way, and just 10 minutes from lovely Ulverstone. Penguin has the perfect beach - crescent shaped with lovely sand and pebbles. Perfect to walk, run or exercise on at low tides. A pedestrian promenade runs the entire length. Animal friendly with two local vets on hand. Great restaurants in Penguin, Ulverstone, Burnie and Devonport and all between. Visitors who check in here for a night, very often decide to extend their stay. The beach drive from Penguin to Ulverstone and the coastal drive from Penguin to Burnie are spectacularly beautiful. Easy access to many beautiful country drives to explore NW Tasmania. Just 1 hour from Port Stanley. Penguin benefits from a dedicated Make Over team of volunteers who keep coming up with great ideas that make the village and surrounds even more beautiful and enjoyable.
