Designflats Ghent is one of the best-rated places to stay in Ghent, located in a renovated townhouse dating back to 1885. The building has been thoroughly refurbished to provide all the comfort you would expect from a high-quality holiday accommodation. It is well insulated both thermally and acoustically, features an elevator, and has been finished using sustainable materials, making it a very pleasant place to stay. From the apartment on the third floor where you will be staying, you can enjoy a lovely view of the picturesque Kramersplein, the majestic Saint Peter’s Abbey, the green abbey garden, and the distant skyline. It’s a wonderful base for exploring the city, but also a great place to simply relax, enjoy the view, and browse through the many books available.

You will be staying in the same building where I work on the ground floor. I know the location inside out and still enjoy it every single day. It is easily accessible from the motorway or by bicycle, yet beautifully situated between Ghent’s major museums and right opposite the stunning Saint Peter’s Abbey. We renovated the building with as much taste as possible, together with an excellent architect and interior designer. Your apartment is located in the heart of the city’s Arts Quarter. It is surrounded by Ghent’s most important museums, all just a few minutes’ walk away: the S.M.A.K. for contemporary art, the Museum of Fine Arts (older than Belgium itself!), the award-winning STAM city museum, the museums of Saint Peter’s Abbey, and the GUM (Ghent University Museum), which also includes a beautiful botanical garden. Nearby, you will also find the impressive city library De Krook, the new Winter Circus, the Book Tower (an architectural masterpiece by Henry van de Velde), and many other university buildings. Thanks to the academic presence, the area is lively and full of excellent culinary spots, all within walking distance. In the immediate surroundings, there are also several beautiful public gardens and parks where you can relax and unwind—including one of Ghent’s hidden gems: the romantic garden of Saint Peter’s Abbey.
