Our short stay at Marambaia was wonderful. It’s a beautiful private suite set amongst stunning rural hillside. Despite staying there before a flight it was far enough away from Rio to immerse ourselves in nature and have a memorable stay. We...

Chalé Minas Em Marambaia – A Unique Forest Retreat Chalé Minas Em Marambaia is a one-of-a-kind hideaway, lovingly built and designed by Northern Irishman Reuben McGonigle in the heart of Barra de Guaratiba, within Clube dos Marambaia. The chalé draws inspiration from the area’s original architecture and carries forward the vision of renowned architect Julio Graber, who in 1975 transported and reconstructed an authentic old farm from Minas Gerais. This historic influence gives the property its name — Minas Em Marambaia. The word Marambaia itself is the indigenous name of the surrounding area and beach. Perched at the highest point of the forested peninsula, the chalé offers unmatched views and a deep sense of tranquility. The grounds are rich with life — filled with fruit trees, exotic plants, and rare species, some of which were planted by none other than the world-famous landscape artist Roberto Burle Marx, whose work still graces the property today. Here, history, culture, and nature blend seamlessly, creating a retreat that is as inspiring as it is relaxing.
We’re Reuben and Anita, a friendly couple who love welcoming guests to our homes in beautiful Brazil. Reuben is originally from Ireland and spent 10 years living in Australia before moving to Brazil. He’s always up for a beer, a laugh, and good conversation. Both of us are professional cooks, so we know how to make people feel at home with food, hospitality, and warmth. Anita has a passion for decorating and creating unforgettable atmospheres. She specializes in flowers, décor for special occasions, and adding thoughtful touches that make every stay unique. Together, we enjoy sharing our homes, local knowledge, and a bit of fun with every guest we host. Whether you’re here to relax, celebrate something special, or simply enjoy Brazilian nature and culture, we’ll do our best to make your stay a memorable one.
Discover Barra de Guaratiba Just 39 km from Copacabana — about an hour’s drive — Barra de Guaratiba is a hidden gem of Rio de Janeiro. Situated on a peninsula and known as one of the safest areas in the city thanks to its nearby military base, this charming district combines history, nature, and authentic Brazilian culture. Barra de Guaratiba is most famous for its breathtaking hikes that lead to secluded beaches such as Praia do Perigoso, Praia do Meio, and Praia do Inferno. Adventurers from around the world also come here to visit the iconic Pedra do Telégrafo, a spectacular viewpoint and one of Rio’s most photographed landmarks. At its heart, Barra de Guaratiba remains a historic fishing village. The area is celebrated for its seafood restaurants, serving the freshest catch of the day with traditional flavors. It is also home to many of the region’s original Indigenous communities, giving visitors a glimpse into the deep cultural roots of the area.
