Cedar Peak is a design-forward, freestanding chalet perched above Grand Étang, offering uninterrupted views from the Cape Breton highlands to the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Purpose-built, the home was thoughtfully designed to be fully barrier-free, balancing clean architecture with comfort and functionality. Large windows fill the open living spaces with natural light, while the panoramic patio invites quiet mornings and long sunsets. Carefully detailed and fully equipped, Cedar Peak is a secluded retreat designed for rest, reflection, and connection to the landscape.
I left Toronto in 2017 to settle in the coastal community of Grand Étang, Nova Scotia, drawn by the landscape and the opportunity to build something meaningful. Over four years, I designed and built Cedar Peak as a purpose-built, barrier-free home, with a strong focus on comfort, accessibility, and thoughtful design. I personally manage the property to ensure every guest enjoys a seamless, high-quality stay. When I’m not hosting, you’ll find me hiking the highlands with my Border Collie, Griffey, volunteering with the Lemoine Fire Department, spinning records, or sketching ideas for the next project.
Grand Étang is a historic fishing village on the rugged northwest coast of Cape Breton, shaped by the sea, the wind, and generations of coastal life. Working harbours, lobster boats, and dramatic headlands define the landscape, while a deep connection to weather and ocean remains part of everyday rhythm. The area is also known for Les Suêtes—a rare and powerful wind phenomenon that can sweep down from the highlands at speeds exceeding 200 km/h, creating moments of raw natural force and unforgettable atmosphere. Remote, resilient, and strikingly beautiful, Grand Étang offers an authentic Cape Breton experience rooted in nature and tradition.
