Glen greeted us warmly and allowed us to check in early so we could drop off our bags while we went out to the Fortress. The house is absolutely lovely--exactly what we were looking for on our Canadian countryside journey! It's very well maintained and the furniture is out of a movie from 70 years ago. Also, the breakfast was delicious and far exceeded expectations! They adjusted for my wife (vegetarian) as well.

We stayed a full day in Halifax our first day in Nova Scotia...

We stayed a full day in Halifax our first day in Nova Scotia and the last evening and half day as well. The riverwalk and businesses and places to visit were very worthwhile our time. The riverside dining was a very nice atmosphere. As with most places there was more to do than we had time to do. One could make a week vacation just out of Halifax. The reason this relatively short time in Halifax worked for us was the primary purpose of our trip was Acadian French genealogy tracing in Windsor, Grand Pre', and Annapolis Royal. Halifax was a good point of origin and departure for our trip.

We went to the Freight Shed for a late lunch.

We went to the Freight Shed for a late lunch. We wanted halibut. It was expensive so we were surprised at how small the piece of halibut was. We went home and were still hungry. We went to the local ceilidh in the evening. We invited friends expecting to sing and dance and enjoy an evening together. It ended up being a crowded concert. Even though it promised song and dance, we only got music. The musicians were very good but did not know how to use the microphones. One spoke too close to the mic and it was painful to hear. We left at the break. It was not the fun evening we had expected. They should call it a concert, not a ceilidh.

The reception was good and as I was there for a short time, the staff were helpful to give me advice on things I could do and where I could go for shopping. The room was clean and warm and that made my stay enjoyable. The distance from the airport and the shuttle services were appropriate for me.

Lots of interesting places to visit , everyone is super friendly and welcoming. On the way to Inverness, the beach is one of the best places. The lighthouse in Cheticamp isn’t worth the drive in the gravel road, and not the nicest lighthouse, there are many others.

Digby felt rejuvenated. Has a nice vibe to it. Great scallop restaurants. Side trips to BearRiver and sunset at Prim Point were highlights as well. The scenery is magnificent and there are plenty of biking trails. The town puts out a pamphlet recommending 10 wonders of Digby which provides a really good guide.

Walking along the streets and along the harbour road taking in the vintage houses is lovely, eating at the Salt Shaker and Beach Pea (tip eat early by 5:00), kayaking at nearby Blue Rocks, and walking the beaches at Hirtle Beach and Kingsburg Beach were all favourites.

Sydney is a town with many interesting buildings and things to do. The harbour front is interesting to visit as is the Titanic museum. The Memorial University campus is very expansive and its botanical gardens a site to see. The streets are a bit confusing to navigate by car but a map helps! We ate several times at the Newfoundland Embassy which serves pub meals and at Boston Pizza where the atmosphere is comfortable and the fish and chips excellent!

We LOVED our accommodations, the quiet and the beach!

We LOVED our accommodations, the quiet and the beach! Most restaurant food was very good. Loved whale watching and the gondola. Would have like a continental breakfast as there were no restaurants within walking distance. Also, restaurants close too early and many ran out of food so decided to close! 150 people at the pizza place (because no place else was open with availability) on a Sunday wasn’t fun.

I loved the small town vibe, along with the welcoming and friendly spirit of this quaint, sweet place! I also squeezed in a bit of Pomquet beach in the outskirts of Antigonish!!!
