Rustic Beachfront Shack | Ocean Views A unique standalone beach shack at Heron’s Reef, offering cosy island comfort right on the waterfront. Enjoy a king-size bed, mountain views on one side and ocean views on the other, plus a kitchenette, ensuite, washing machine, and covered outdoor dining and living area. Fall asleep to the sound of the waves in a peaceful retreat with Cook Islands charm, ideally located between Avarua and Muri. Swimming is not suitable directly out front, Ideal for beach combing and relaxing. There are friendly dogs and cats on the property who may visit, but are not to be allowed inside.

From Rarotonga, Cook Islands (New Zealand citizens), restaurateurs and accommodators, like to travel.. We are next door but often off-site, with no reception on arrival, and paid transfers are provided by an independent taxi company. We are mostly busy working in our restaurants around the island, where you are eligible for a discount off meals. We will make an effort to meet you and respond to any queries you may have by phone.

Heron's Reef Beach Shack is located on the beachfront and shares beach access with the mountain facing Heron's Reef Holiday Apartments in the peaceful village of Matavera on Rarotonga's lush eastern coast. The beachfront here is rocky, with coral heads throughout the lagoon. While it isn't suitable for swimming, guests can enjoy wading and exploring the reef with appropriate reef shoes. For sandy beaches, snorkelling and lagoon swimming, Muri Beach is just a 5-minute drive away (approximately 30–45 minutes on foot). Away from the busier resort areas, Matavera offers an island experience with a relaxed local atmosphere, oceanfront scenery, and easy access to both the coast and inland attractions. The property is close to Love Cafe, 5 minutes drive from supermarkets, roadside fruit stalls, and on the island bus route, while Muri Lagoon, Punanga Nui Market, and Avarua township are only a short drive away. Guests can explore the historic Ara Metua back road by bike or car, enjoy nearby snorkelling, fishing, walking and hiking opportunities, or simply relax and watch the sunrise over the Pacific.
