Experience the real rainforest at Coco Cabana, a freshly renovated and off-the-beaten-path 2-bed, 1-bath casita designed for families, friends, and extended stays. The fully-fenced and gated property features covered and lighted parking, landscaping, boot-wash station and hand-painted mural art. Inside, handmade furnishings and carefully curated amenities create a space that is welcoming, comfortable, and well-equipped. Sleep up to four in two separately air-conditioned bedrooms: one features a queen-sized bed with a memory foam topper and down-filled duvet, while the offers two handcrafted twin beds. The bathroom has shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hand soap, and oversized bath sheets imported from the USA. You'll find couches, coffee table, books, games, a Bluetooth speaker, Wi-Fi, luggage racks, clothing drying racks, desk, table-top fan and umbrella. The kitchenette is equipped with cookware, dishes, bowls, cutlery, colander, mini-fridge, coffee maker, kettle, mugs, coffee, tea, and basic seasonings. The covered back patio is complete with a ceiling fan, outdoor dining area, double-burner gas stove and grill. After dark, spot lighting allows guests to enjoy nighttime animal viewing without leaving the property. Less than 10 minutes from the center of Puerto Viejo de Sarapiquí, the property feels completely removed from society. Surrounded by rainforest and accessed via unpaved roads, a 4x4 vehicle is therefore recommended. Guests are welcome to explore the extremely quiet dirt road that passes in front of the property and extends along undisturbed jungle. Monkeys, toucans, frogs, butterflies, and countless bird species are frequently observed there. Please note that the jungle behind the property is raw, undeveloped, and unmarked. For safety and liability reasons, entry into the dense jungle itself is only permitted with a guide at an additional per person fee. Guided nighttime treks can be arranged for guests and conveniently depart directly from Coco Cabana.
Hi, my name is Daniel Solis. I am from California, USA. I'm passionate about reptiles and amphibians, particularly snakes. I first discovered Sarapiqui nearly ten years ago, when I traveled here for wildlife photography. I loved it so much that I returned at least once every year since. During one of these visits, a local friend brought me to this property to view wildlife. I saw so many animals, and loved it. I wanted to share this place with my family and friends, so I put down a deposit on the land. A few years later, in 2023, I reconnected with my high school sweetheart, Nina. I had graduated high school in 2005, and although we somewhat kept in touch for a few years, we hadn't spoken for at least a decade at that point. With Nina, I visited Sarapiqui and together we began to imagine what this property could become. Over one week in 2024, Nina and I eloped at a courthouse in Arizona and relocated to Costa Rica full-time. When we arrived, there wasn't any water or electricity on the property. Slowly, we built our own home (showering outside, and sleeping in an open-air structure). Once we got that done, we began building bungalows from scratch and renovated the Coco Cabana -- where you are staying now! It has been a wild and incredible adventure. We are thankful that you are staying with us, and want you to love this place just as much as we do. Please know that we live just next door, and are always available for whatever you may need. We are as hands-on as you prefer, and can even help make reservations for activities in the area or recommend restaurants. I am also available to help you explore our jungle property at night.
There's a lot of nature-oriented activities in Sarapiqui, including white water rafting, riverboat safari, horseback riding, nature walks, night hikes, zip line, ATV, biking, tubing, kayaking and more. The chocolate tour -- where you learn how cacao is grown and chocolate is made -- is especially popular. They give you a TON to taste! We maintain a list of our favorite restaurants, and update it regularly. We're happy to share this with all of our guests so they can visit the places that we like the most.
