Such friendly people, great communication. I was a bit worried about the shuttle pickup as our flight was late and we arrived well past midnight, but we were met at the airport with no problem for the 12 minute drive to the guesthouse. Easy shuttle back the next morning. Everything clean and well organized. Would highly recommend!!

The location is a 10min drive from the airport and thez will provide the drive for you, super nice host. Will also drive you back to the airport-shuttle if needed. Perfect for a airport location. Only thing to keep in mind is potential traffic that might turn the 10 minutes into 30. Other than that, it was great.

The owner was SO communicative. Originally he was going to pick me up from the airport (for a small extra fee), but might flight ended up being so delayed I didn't come in until 1am. He gave me all of the information I needed to get in myself. It was safe and easy, even in the middle of the night. Would have loved to try to walk the next morning because it is so close (even if Google Maps says it isn't!), but my timing didn't work out. Space was clean and there was a fan - thank goodness!

Proximity to Airport! This facility standards were substandard. My wife hurt her foot on a dangerous doorstop, sewer gas was overwhelming, no hot water, air conditioner was not hooked up, pumping hot air back into the room. The stairs right from ground level were dangerous. English was non existent with staff. They were courteous and helpful. There were no privacy coverings on the windows. Open hole in Bathroom ceiling.

Alajuela is safer than 75% of the neighborhoods in the USA. Like every neighborhood on the planet that is next to an airport, Alajuela can be sketchy af. Reminder: It is full of beautiful people who have to put up with the trouble-makers too (mostly harassing travelers about coke, but I assume those same guys would rob you if you act like a jerk or look like a victim at night. **It is NOT Toucan Hostel's fault at all. Toucan Hostel 100% insures the safety of their guests. I have met amazing travelers at Toucan. I loved when the food Truck was there and hope it returns.** I stay at Toucan every time I arrive and leave the country. I go to the bar next door every time and have NEVER had trouble with the locals there. Even on the bar's crazy Karaoke night when all of the OGs are there. Back in the US, I would have been robbed in 2 seconds. The Alajuela locals and thugs know 100% that we guests are staying at Toucan Hostel and we are just passing through. They were all quite cordial to be honest and keep the aggro guys at away. You will be safe on Toucan's street. I walked from Toucan to the Alajuela Wal-Mart multiple times and always take that blocked-off for cars short-cut through that small barrio nearby & never had issues during the day. Be cool and they'll be cool.

San Antonio itself is a great base to travel from, it is close to Airport and to Car rentals, there are Supermarkets nearby also if self catering, however it is a little too far from other central attentions if your intension is to stay in San Jose itself.

Convenient hotel, close to the airport. Rooms are comfortable, clean and spacious. Staff was very friendly, kind and attentive.
Only downside was breakfast, which was a bit limited. Food was good and fresh.

Nice little place with great restaurant on side and a parking, staff that is very friendly, nice garden and a pool. The beds could be better but room was nice and spacious. This was our second time and will be back. It is a good option for before or after airport night. Only downside is the sound of the airplanes and a construction noise from behind the rooms that starts from early morning.

This was a great place to stay for one night.
This was a great place to stay for one night. For a small additional fee, I was picked up at the airport and very early the next morning I was taken to where I had to meet my tour bus. Also, after I left I discovered that I had left my phone charger in the room. I contacted them and they were kind enough to take it to the hotel in San Jose where I would be staying in a few days.

We found 2 nights before a flight to be perfect, giving us a spare day to putter. We went to the zoo this time. The museum is worth a visit as is the cathedral. Lots of choice for food. It is a very busy city but only 10 minutes from the airport. We also spent about 4 hours at City Mall as our flight was at midnight. There is no place to stash your bags at the airport so we had to keep them with us at the mall.

Cute little town near the airport. Probably not a destination, but, if you have a night to kill before flying out, it's fine. Otherwise, there isn't anything I know of to draw visitors. Couple cute restaurants on the main street. Felt safe walking around after dark.

Alajuela City is a small town with an accessible centre. It isn't full of tourists, people are living their lives and going about their daily business. It was very pleasant and friendly, we ate in a covered market with lots going on around us in a cheerful busy atmosphere. Easygoing with a pleasant central square.

We did more in San Antonio than we expected to do. The church in the center of town was welcoming, and there are a lot of restaurants with good food and service. The bussing to other areas (San Jose and Heredia) is well marked and has an appropriate schedule. Plus, the area felt safe to walk after sunset. Because of its convivence, we extended our hotel stay to stay in the area, and only bussed to San Jose for the day.

We stayed for one night at the beginning and end of our Costa Rican trip. Very nice residential, family owned boutique hotel conveniently located to the SJO airport. Rooms were spacious and clean. The open air lounge / breakfast area provided wonderful opportunities for seeing and hearing birds while taking in the wonderful landscaping. Breakfast was freshly prepared and very tasty.
