I retired to Costa Rica in 2003, became bored, and developed The Oaks, a gated, secure community with 96 condominium units and 160 parking spaces, No longer bored. Costa Rica is a wonderful country and a great change of pace and lifestyle from the U.S. I still own 18 units and manage an additional 12 units for owners.

Property info

You pay the stated rental rate in bold print plus an added amount that is a resort fee and 13% Costa Rica sales tax, shown as a separate amount immediately below the rental rate. You add those two numbers together, and that's it. The Oaks is special because of its environmental design, water conservation and preservation of the surrounding environment. Its safety, peacefulness and family atmosphere are major pluses. There are no common walls between apartments, no indoor hallways and no elevators. We have one of the only private dog parks in the country, plus park-style outdoor body resistance weight machines for exercise and fitness. Plus, four pools, including a semi-olympic lap pool, two bbq areas and a walking trail, all on 7 1/2 acres of lushly landscaped grounds.

Neighborhood info

The Oaks' central location is a ten minute drive from Tamarindo, far enough to avoid the crowds and close enough for easy access. We also have easy access to all the best beaches and attractions, including "hidden gem" beaches like Playa Minae and Playa Penca. Our disadvantage is that we are not on a beach. Our advantage is that we offer a great location to visit all the beaches. In this age of social distancing, we also offer the perfect location to tour all of Guanacaste's natural attractions without living in crowded conditions. Nearby, there is a mini-super, an excellent breakfast and lunch spot, Stop Cafe, and an excellent local restaurant, Punto Tranquilo, which offers take out. Two pizzerias also deliver.
