Dear beloved guest As Hortencias is a colonial house in the city center. Full of art, leisure spaces, terrace, mini pool and interior courtyard We are not a hotel or a guesthouse. You will not encounter the personnel, comfort or amenities of a hotel or a guesthouse. As Hortencias is a centennial house acquired by Tia Hortencia, a kind hearted Cape Verdian who spent her adult life working as a maid in France and used her savings to buy her dreamhouse in Sao Vicente, As Hortencias. Tia Hortencia spent her retirement years in this house. She was a single woman with no children, who spent these years tending for the ones in need. She would wake up at 5am, take her swim in Laginha Beach and go to the hospital to care for the ones in need, or anywhere that she was needed. We have recovered As Hortencias with an eye at keeping the house with as many old elements as we could. You will find walls, doors, pipings, beds, from the last century. They might not feel as comfortable, but they are an authentic part of history you will be experiencing. You will also find modern construction, art and furniture that try to reflect an aesthetic inspired on the beautiful heart of Tia Hortencia. I am a traveller. Although traveling is one of the things I love the most in life, I find myself feeling hungry for human connection and for feeling embraced in the new countries I visit. This is what we hope to accomplish in As Hortencias. We wish to welcome you like family in our little shelter while you navigate this new country. I am usually traveling, but I am leaving you a big hug. We do not have personnel 24 h a day, but please know that you are embraced and that you are family in this house. Neighborhood info

Downtown area, avenue full of cafes, restaurants, live music, supermarket. Minutes from the craft museum, cultural center and Laginha beach. Please be aware that we are located on the main street of Avenida Baltazar Lopes, which is one of the main streets in the city. Therefore, this location may not be ideal for guests sensitive to noise.
