The municipality Hesel, with the towns Brinkum, Firrel, Hesel, Holtland, Schwerinsdorf and Neukamperfehn lies in the middle of Ostfriesland, about 45 km of the North-sea cost. In Hesel you can find the largest regional forest area, the Heselerwald. Also the Stikelkamper wald, which can be found only minutes away from the cottage, offers a wide range of hiking trails around Gut Stikelkamp. The broad diversity in landscape offers a lot of possibilities for recreation. The bicycle route network offers almost 500 km of beautiful cycling trails past forestry, green pastures, crop fields, typical hedges and peat canals (wieken). Only 35 km from Kniepwiekerhof, you can find the historical fisherman's village Ditzum, from where you can also take a ferry to Delfzijl (NL) or the island Borkum.
