It is a modern castle of the 20th century, built in a medieval, majestic style unique to this region. Formerly a winery of Sekt (German sparkling wine), the castle was a direct supplier to the court of the Kaiser in 1912. It originally belonged to descendants of the Rothschild family. It is located near the Saar and Mosel rivers, in the oldest part of Germany, less than 30 km away from Trier. It is located in the wine region famous for its Riesling wines.
