The house has a large open plan kitchen/dining/lounge area with comfortable seating as well as several dining tables. Both bedrooms are ensuite and have bath tubs and showers. The house has high cathedral ceilings and maple wood parquet flooring. From the lounge area, there are wonderful views of the front garden area and the Caribbean sea, with distant views of the neighbouring Island of Guadeloupe and the Saintes. There is a wrap around veranda where you can sit with a drink and watch the sun go down. There is almost complete peace here with only the sound of nature to disturb you. For shopping, Portsmouth is the nearest town and is barely 10 minutes drive away. There are also several lovely beaches either at Toucari or either side of Portsmouth, also about a 10 minute drive.

When Maurice, your host, is not setting up Artisan bakeries all over the World (www.mauricechaplais.com) he is living in his beautiful property here in Dominica which he has owned for 12 years. Maurice is half French half English and in 2013 became a Dominican citizen of which he is very proud. He has spent a lot of time travelling around the Island so is delighted to help guests make the most of their time in what he thinks is the most beautiful Island in the Caribbean. The house happens to be about 300 feet above sea level, and facing the ocean, so it gets constant sea breezes which makes it appreciably cooler than in Portsmouth itself. Some locals find it quite cold in the evening on our terrace, but that is all relative!!! We are very lucky in that the house is so close to a gorgeous little village called Toucari ( 1 to 2 miles)where there is a lovely swimming beach and you can rent kayaks to paddle around the bay. It is also home to my favourite restaurant called "Keepin it real" right on the beach. If you drive about an extra mile you will come to Prince Rupert Bay, where is situated the brand new 5 star Kempinsky resort and Spa also on a lovely beach, where you can enjoy the 5 star facilities/all day barbecues. Then next stop is Purple Turtle beach which is gorgeous with a simple restaurant / bar if you so need. The bay is full of yachts at anchor, and here on the beach you will be mingling as much with locals as tourists. Another mile down the road and you will come to the local town of Portsmouth, which has many small restaurants, a good supermarket, and a lively Saturday open air market. Portsmouth could be described as shabby chic!!
