Our Story: A journey back to the roots. Swapping an award winning country pub and guest house in the city of Bath Uk for the sun-drenched peaks of Polopos. We are Nigel & Fede, and for the past 12 months of 2025, we have been on the adventure of a lifetime. What began as a trip to Spain to spend time with Fede’s family became the start of a new chapter: restoring a piece of history in La Alpujarra Bala of Granada, Polopos. Our story in Polopos runs deep. The family connection to the village goes back generations - Fede’s grandfather once served as the local town doctor. We received the keys in January 2025 and have spent every moment since then renovating and breathing new life into this former B&B. Our goal is to open in 2026, offering a sanctuary in the breathtaking Sierra de la Contraviesa. Casa mariscal sits 800 meters above sea level, it has evolved along the years, from a Manor House to a Blacksmiths, becoming a B&B in recent years. The New owners have designed this country house to a high standard, whilst keeping the old country feel but bringing it up to date with a modern twist. Casa Mariscal underwent a complete refurbishment in 2025, which now offers 5 en-suite bedrooms that over looks the mountains of Polopos and the Mediterranean Sea, each room has its own design with private bathrooms, coffee station, free wifi and free continental breakfast included. Whether you’re traveling as a couple or with a friend, we can often adapt our rooms to suit your needs. Depending on availability, we are happy to prepare your room with either a double or twin bed setup, just let us know your preference. The neighbourhood sits in the Sierra de la contraviesa (Alpujarra Baja), approximately 800 meters above the Mediterranean Sea. The B&B is perfectly positioned within the traditional whitewashed Spanish village of Polopos. The area is defined by “tranquillity” a quiet street environment, with a local Spanish bar serving drinks and tapa and Bar restaurant Julia serving drinks and food, a menu to suit all. The surroundings are known for agricultural heritage, including almond trees, figs, avocados and vineyards. During the spring, the landscape is famous for its “pink show” of almond blossoms. While serene, the location is described as best navigated with personal transport; renting a car is highly advised to explore the surrounding beauty. Guests can expect a “stunning” contrast between the rugged mountains and the “deep blue of the Mediterranean” visible from the house and the nearby ravines.
