“Silent part of a camping area, near to Punkaharju hiking area. Good layout in the cabin. Cool timber on hot weather. All necessary equipment to make food. Nice sauna, though we didn't try it. All in all comfortable stay.”

A cozy cottage by the pureset Pihlajavesi lake, one of the largest lakes in Finland. The famous Punkaharju ridge is right across a small strait. The cottage is located in a small "vacation village" so there are equipment rental services (bikes, boats, kayaks, skis, skates) and two restaurants just a short walk away. In the winter you have access to miles of groomed skiing trails through scenic forests and tour skating trails on the lake. In the summer you can enjoy walks along easy hiking trails along lake shores and around the research forest of the Finnish Forest Research Institute that has coniferous trees from all around the world. You can learn more about forestry in the Forest Museum LUSTO open around the year.
Savonlinna with its beautiful Olavinlinna castle, home of the Opera Festival, is just a short car ride away, about 25km. You can reach the town by commuter train (stop name "Retretti"). In the summer there's also a slower but definitely more romantic option - a steam ship. The closest groceries store is in the Punkaharju village, 8km away.
