Richard and Patricia have been open to guests for 6 years. We are thoroughly enjoying hosting guests from various parts of the world. We look forward to meeting each and every guest, so many different people, from different places, staying briefly or for longer holidays. Some stay en route elsewhere, some are hikers, others are cyclists; we often have guests who are exploring all the surrounding areas of interest. When we have less guests, we spend our time redecorating the rooms and gardening. We have loads of greenery which needs to be kept on top of. We also have lovely chickens who enjoy their freedom and provide delicious eggs for breakfast. We are keen cooks and we frequent the markets to buy local produce. We enjoy a glass or two of Cahors wine and have visited various wine producers. Our research also includes sampling the numerous restaurants in the locality. In our spare time we take a walk along the river or up in the hills. We are learning about the wildlife and the wild flowers. There are so many different orchids on our field in the spring! Richard makes good use of his new binoculars to try and identify all the different birds.

Castel Rouge is very green and tranquil, ideal if you want to relax in the peace and quiet. It is a 10 minute walk into Luzech. From the rooms and apartments guests have views beyond the cedar trees to the surrounding vineyards and the hills. One can watch the red squirrels and listen out for the golden orioles. Sometimes there are donkeys on the field who are occasionally joined by a deer. Each apartment or room has its own private entrance. The decor is clean and simple. All rooms have the necessary creature comforts, such as, en suite bathrooms with walk in showers; TV; tea and coffee facilities; 'fridge. Free wi-fi. Guests can enjoy sitting outside on their own private terraces which have tables and chairs. Breakfast is served on your terrace or in your room and includes home made and local produce. Castel Rouge does not have communal breakfasts or any communal areas, our guests enjoy absolute privacy. The apartments provide basic cooking facilities so self catering is possible if guests wish to prepare their own meals. We provide a booklet with places to visit and things to do. We have visiting cards for local restaurants and we are happy to make reservations for you, if you wish.

The river Lot loops around Luzech and is an excellent spot for walking, cycling, fishing and canoeing. There are local beaches where you can take a dip in the hot days of summer or rent out a canoe for a paddle down the river. In the summer bicycles can be hired in the village. We are surrounded by vineyards, and guests often visit the local chateaux for cellar visits and wine tastings of the local Cahors wine (Malbec). Luzech has a medieval tower and there is a small museum explaining who settled here over the years. Taking a stroll along the river amongst the vineyards is an excellent way to explore the local natural beauty of the area. Luzech has two bakeries and 3 café / restaurants, a pizza take away, a rum cocktail bar, hairdressers, gift shop, tabac, and 2 mini markets. There is a market every Wednesday morning. Prayssac is a 12 minute drive away and in 2019 it was voted the best market in the Occitane. It is pretty and bustling, with a superb array of local produce. Cahors is 20 minutes away and has a larger market and is also fabulous. Castel Rouge is fantastically located for visiting a variety of places of interest within the Lot; the prehistoric caves of Pech Merle; the plus beau village Saint-Cirq-Lapopie, Rocamadour and many more. The Dordogne is also only an hour away.
