After years of traveling the world, I eventually felt a deep need to return to my roots—back to the land that saw me born. I was looking to settle near my childhood village when she appeared to me, like an opportunity that couldn’t be missed: the Ticaille brick factory. I used to pass by it as a kid, on my way to school in Ayguesvives. Even then, those long, dark wooden shutters caught my eye. And here we are, twenty years later, reunited. She was old and worn down; I was still young and full of energy. Our unexpected encounter still feels like it was meant to be. Restoring buildings has never been my passion. But I couldn’t let this one fall into the hands of developers. Over two centuries of history are held within these walls. She helped build old Toulouse and the surrounding area. “La Ville Rose” owes its name, in part, to the bricks fired in her very kilns. She is part of our heritage. I am simply her caretaker...
