John and Madeline Denison are esteemed American chefs who have spent nearly a decade immersing themselves in the culinary traditions and enchanting landscapes of France and other European countries. Their profound appreciation for French cuisine and lifestyle initially drew them to Paris, where they eventually crossed paths and discovered shared passions. Recognizing their deep connection to the area, they made the decision to settle down and opened Maison Le Grand Saule. Embarking on a new chapter as the proud owners of a bed & breakfast. Le Grand Saule aims to provide a serene retreat in the countryside, perfect for relaxation or as a base for local exploration. It is also a hub for culinary education, sharing John & Madeline's expertise through retreats focused on regional cuisine and hosting curated dining experiences that highlight local culture.​​

Constructed in 1734, in Bugnein, France, the two houses on this property were originally barns linked to a neighboring farm. Throughout the years, the property has exchanged ownership multiple times, with the most recent transformation into a charming bed & breakfast by the previous owners. John and Madeline, the current owners are committed to upholding this tradition of hospitality at Le Grand Saule. The property hosts 5 different rooms, a communal salon, a communal kitchen, a large terrace, 2 acres of property, and a table d'hôte, where with a reservation, people can dine and enjoy a dinner with us. Dinners need to be reserved 24hrs in advance.

The property is located in the heart of the Béarn region of France and sits in the foothills of the Pyrenees Mountains. We are close to a number of small charming villages, such as Navarrenx & Salies De Béarn. As well, we are under an hour from Pau which is our closest city. Destinations like Biarritz and San Sebastian are an easy day trip away. Our house sits right on the trail of the La Voie du Puy, specifically étape 29.
