The riverside quays and the historic centre around Place de la Bourse are a 20–22 minute walk, or a short tram ride. Bordeaux's wine country is easily reached on a day trip: the Saint-Émilion UNESCO World Heritage vineyards make for a popular outing, and the Atlantic coast — including Europe's tallest sand dune at Dune du Pilat and the oyster shacks and beaches of Arcachon Bay — is roughly an hour's drive away.
