A charming 4 bedroom house in the heart of Southwest France with views across rolling french countryside.A detached property standing in 2 acres and the beautiful bastide villages of the Dordogne only a short drive away. The house blends french character with modern comfort - perfect for families and friends who want to relax, explore and enjoy French life in the Dordogne. LaFue, "the house on the hill" is a detached property standing in 2 acres surrounded by french countryside. The main house, the "pavilion", which dates back to the 17th Century, is currently undergoing internal refurbishment. LaFue's "west wing" sleeps up to 8 guests with 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, comfortable living area and outside dining terrace with views across french countryside. Step Back in Time | Bastide Towns The Dordogne and Lot-et-Garonne regions are home to some of France’s most beautiful bastide towns — medieval fortified villages built in the 13th and 14th centuries. Just minutes from LaFue, you’ll find a patchwork of cobbled squares, stone arcades, and half-timbered houses that seem frozen in time. Eymet itself is one of the best-preserved bastides in southwest France. Founded in 1270 by Alphonse de Poitiers, it still follows the classic grid plan around a central square — now filled with cafés, restaurants, and galleries. The weekly market brings the square to life with the smell of fresh bread, ripe melons, and local wine. Nearby bastide gems include: Issigeac – a circular medieval village famous for its Sunday market and ancient architecture. Monpazier – often called the “perfect bastide,” founded in 1284 and officially listed among Les Plus Beaux Villages de France. Villeréal – with its remarkable 14th-century wooden market hall and summer night markets. Lauzun and Miramont-de-Guyenne – smaller but full of charm, each with cafés, fairs, and local events.
Hi, we’re Dorothy & Alex and we’re delighted to welcome you to our home away from home. We hope you’ll love it as much as we do and are here to help you have the perfect stay.
Markets & Local Produce Markets are at the heart of Dordogne life, and each town has its own rhythm and flavour. Weekly Markets Near Eymet: Eymet – Thursday mornings: local produce, cheeses, wine, handmade goods. Issigeac – Sunday mornings: one of the most colourful markets in southwest France. Duras – Monday mornings: local honey, fruit, and Bergerac wines. Miramont – Monday mornings: classic French market with everyday essentials. In summer (July–August), many towns host evening “marchés gourmands” — outdoor food markets where you can buy dishes directly from local producers, sit under the stars, and enjoy live music. Bring your own cutlery, order a glass of wine, and join the locals at long communal tables — it’s the true Dordogne experience. Castles & History Château de Duras – spectacular views and interactive exhibits for kids. Château de Biron – a magnificent fortress overlooking the Dordogne Valley. Château de Bridoire – known as “the Château des Jeux”, with over 100 traditional games and family activities. Swimming & Lakes Lac de l’Escourou (10 mins): a quiet spot for picnics, walking, and wildlife. Lac de Lougratte (25 mins): supervised swimming area with sandy beach, pedalos, and café. Bergerac Aqua Park (35 mins): inflatable water park, slides, and activities for kids. Vineyards & Picnics Parents can enjoy relaxed tastings at family-run vineyards in the Bergerac and Monbazillac wine regions — many offer picnic areas and welcome children. Cycling & Walking Quiet country lanes, sunflower fields, and riverside routes — ideal for family rides or scenic walks. Bikes can be hired in Eymet or Bergerac. Festivals & Events From May to September, Eymet hosts a full calendar of fairs, concerts, and night markets. Don’t miss: Bastille Day fireworks (14 July) over the Dropt River Eymet Medieval Festival (August) with knights, jousting, and crafts Weekly night market (Tuesdays in summer) with food stalls and live music in the square
