The property is nicely decorated and was cool in the summer heat. It was comfortable and provided everything we needed for our stay. Being directly across the road from a small supermarket was very handy. Bedding and towels provided and everything...

The location was perfect for the wedding we were attending and very convenient for the town facilities. It was well presented and had extras we weren't expecting like sauces in the fridge. Some snacks and everything you would need if you forgot...

Lovely cottage, and well equipped. Even though it's right on the high street, it's quiet at night and we slept well.

Motcombe Cottage, (23 Bridge Street) is a cosy family home in the little market town of Hatherleigh, dating back to 1790 with lots of charm and character. The space Cosy lounge with a wood / multi-fuel stove, with comfortable seating, cosy atmosphere and TV, X-Box, various board games for rainy days, small dining area with seating for 4 people. This leads through into the kitchen which is equipped with electric oven, hob, microwave, toaster, air fryer, fridge, washing machine, essential cupboard supplies. tea, coffee, sugar etc. Upstairs you will find two double bedrooms with double bed in each, extra blankets and pillows are available if required. Towels are provided. There is a upstairs walk-in shower room and WC supplied with body wash, shampoo, conditioner and hand soap. Wi-Fi, fuel, power, bedlinen and towels are all included. Outside the front door Leads directly onto Bridge Street, where you have access to the local Co-Op, Post Office, Chip Shop, Café and two great pubs just a walk away. There is parking for one car outside of the house, alternatively there is a car park at the back of the Co-op. Our roads are very narrow in places, but this is rural Devon and to be expected. Guests have access to the whole property. Guest access Access is to the whole of the house, feel free to use any food found in the fridge or cupboards. Bottles of wine are available for your use, we just ask that you replace them with something suitable from the local Co-op. There is parking available outside of the property, and it is perfectly safe to leave your care there over night. Otherwise there is a large car park at the back of the Co-op which is just over the road. (Pay and Display). Other things to note Tea, coffee, sugar, oil, salt, pepper, HP sauce and tomato ketchup provided, plus you are welcome to help yourself to any items in the food cupboards. We welcome small pets. Please do not leave pets alone in the property, as this can annoy adjoining neighbours.
I am a work from home lady and love to make my own cosmetics and face creams, which means I get to use them too, people do say I don't look my age, so it must be working. In my spare time (when I have any), I like to go to our local Lawn Bowling Club which is also in Hatherleigh, and have recently become Secretary of the club (probably because no one else wanted to do it !). I class myself as a beginner bowler and am still learning along with my husband John who I drag kicking and screaming.
Hatherleigh is a historic, vibrant market town in West Devon, often cited as one of the smallest towns in the county, renowned for its strong community spirit, 15th-century architecture, and unique annual traditions like the flaming tar barrel carnival. Nestled near the River Lew, it serves as a rural hub with local amenities, including independent shops, pubs, and a weekly Tuesday market. Motcombe cottage is in a central prime position in the historic market town. Hatherleigh is perhaps one of the most beautiful and well-positioned towns in the Dartmoor area, offering links to all areas of the country and boasting every amenity you could ever need, including: the medical centre, Co-op, post office, pubs and hairdressers (as well as a host of independent businesses including the chip shop, the café and a petrol station with servicing area). Okehampton and Dartmoor are just a few miles south and Hatherleigh itself boasts its own moorland just up the hill. The most striking amenities to consider are the stunning church and the historic market, which still attracts visitors from far and wide every week. The new addition to our town is our weekly indoor Tuesday Market, where you can purchase local products and crafts, there is also a weekly auction of household items.
