L’al Cottage is a charming two bedroom terraced cottage, dating from around 1750. It’s located in the village of Sockbridge, on the edge of the Lake District National Park. Sitting on a quiet lane, the cottage invites you to curl up and relax. You’re more likely to be woken up by birdsong than traffic! The space is cosy and clean, with exposed stone walls and a wood burning stove. The lovely patio garden at the rear is the perfect place to take in the evening sun and listen to the birds. Sockbridge sits about three miles from both Penrith and Ullswater, making it an ideal base to explore the Lake District and the surrounding areas, by foot, bike, bus or car. The cottage includes: oil fired central heating, wood burning stove, electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge, freezer, washing machine, small dishwasher, WiFI, TV with Freeview, bluetooth speaker. Linen and towels are included. A travel cot and highchair are available. There is also a sofa bed for 2 persons’ occasional use in the lounge. Please note - the stairs up to the back garden are steep and there is no handrail. Please take care. The garden is not enclosed so please bear this in mind if you are bringing a dog.

We are Helen and Simon and we live in South Manchester with our sausage dogs Juno and Lily. We fell in love with the area after many happy trips to the Lake District and its surrounds in our camper van. We can’t wait to welcome you to our home from home.

Sockbridge is a quiet and friendly village, easily accessible by car. It sits on the edge of the Lake District National Park between Pooley Bridge (on the edge of Ullswater) and Penrith. A handy local bus (the 508) travels to both towns and as far as Windermere in the summer months, making the cottage a perfect base for adventures across the region. For those staying closer to home, there are numerous public footpaths (including the Eamont Way) for guests and their dogs to enjoy. Warm food and cold drinks at The Queens Head, an 500-year old traditional inn, are at the end of a five minute stroll. Although, with the log burner and the patio garden, there’s really no need to leave the cottage at all! Cumbria is the perfect destination for a holiday to suit all tastes.
