The front desk staff, the breakfast crew, and the cleaners were absolutely friendly and engaging. The buffet and cooked breakfast were all very good. The room decor was simple, crisp, and very uplifting. The bed was slightly higher off the ground than standard, which we favoured (easier for people like us with back issues to get on and off). Lovely view of the town centre from our room (2nd or 3rd floor, I can't remember). We also got lucky with parking and had a spot right in front of the hotel.

The host welcomed us & showed us to our beautifully furnished room with all you could need for a short stay (tea & coffee facilities, toaster, little fridge to keep things cool, Wi-Fi & tv). Spotlessly clean room and bathroom- and such a comfortable bed :) Also very short drives to some lovely places to visit.

Shap was lovely, 10 miles from Penrith, so it is a shame this software came up with inaccurate location and worse that there is no facility to put it right. We did drive through and round Penrith but can't say any more about it. Shap had nice countryside all round. We liked our meal in the Crown Inn. Co op shop was good. Shap Abbey was well worth a visit. Shap was also a good location for seeing lots of good places all around

It is a good starting point for the North Lakes and I especially enjoyed my trip and walk by the side of Ullswater which is spectacular. It is a World Heritage Site and so remains unspoilt by commercialisation. I last walked by it 20 years ago and it is still the same. As I was only there for 2 days whilst visiting family who were on holiday I didn't really investigate solo trips but it is something for the future. From the station there seemed to be buses to places North and West of the town. It is a place I would consider visiting again in the future

The staff were most helpful, especially regarding the evening meal. As it was a Friday night and they had a DJ in and lots of groups of people eating we were able to be seated in the lounge area where it was quieter. The air conditioning was a little fierce in the lounge area . and this was adjusted for us. The food was excellent - the best chicken we have had for years. Breakfast was beautifully cooked and fresh. The bedroom was clean ad very comfortable. All in all a wonderful place to stay.

A bit disappointed with Penrith.

A bit disappointed with Penrith. For a town in Cumbria it was quite scruffy. We arrrive on a saturday afternoon. Lots of litter n the streets. Off the main streets the buildings seemed run down, with litter, and 'unkept'. The council were out picking up litter in the main square at 030am Sunday morning, so that helps. Only a couple of pubs we found that were worth visiting...or you'd want to visit?

A fairly typical market town.

A fairly typical market town. Some interesting local food, craft and art'sy shops. The remains of the castle were interesting to visit. Parking is very spread about over the town and can be quite expensive. We had lunch at Stock Deli and Social. It was delicious! There's a Wetherspoons for cheap drinks. Always a bonus. People were generally friendly and helpful. We ate in the evening at Raj curry house. Vegetable thali type dishes were amazing.

On the edge of the Lake District in the Eden valley, Penrith...

On the edge of the Lake District in the Eden valley, Penrith is a great base for exploring this area. We visited Acorn Bank Mill & saw the new water wheel in action, drove to see the ancient standing stones named 'Long Meg and her daughters' as well as walking up above Haweswater. Our weekend away was definitely not long enough to fully explore the nearby sights. We ate at Foundry 34 and Aturo Lounge in Penrith. I am gluten free so this often dictates where we eat and both these places could cater to my dietary needs. We can't reccommend highly enough 'Larch Cottage nurseries' at Melkinthorpe. The nurseries stock a fantastic variety of plants & the restaurant serves fantastic, fresh food in a beautiful building and setting. The homemade gluten free cake was the best I have ever tasted. We visited on a Sunday afternoon when the owners' private garden was open. We were amazed by their creativity. Definitely a one off. We had a car to get around so I can't comment on the availibility of public transport. My husband is a Park run tourist and thoroughly enjoyed the Penrith park run on Saturday morning.

The Hotel is situated in the heart of Penrith on the doorstep of pubs, shops and restaurants. Lovely old building which retains its character. Even Gayle was in keeping with the surroundings :-) We were met by Gayle and she is lovely. Couldn't do enough for us. I even brought her a kebab for breakfast, but she declined my offer. Keep up the good work. Beds were soo comfy and no external or internal noise. We didn't know about the bistro to the side which we used on the last night, but would recommend this. Definitely stay again.

The property was lovely and cosy, and I appreciated the roomy size of the kitchen. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the location on the outskirts of Penrith was perfect for exploring the north Lake District. It also meant it was quiet in the evenings away from the busy town centre. There is a great pub within a 2 minute walk of the property with a huge beer garden and play area which my family made great use of to enjoy the last of the sunshine.
