For the outdoor enthusiast this is fantastic walking and cycling country and within a short distance are two of the main sections of the 7Stanes Mountain Bike Network at Dalbeattie and the other at Dumfries. There are excellent Nature and Bird Reserves again within a short drive at WWT Caerlaverock and RSPB Mersehead. For those looking to experience some Scottish history & culture, Dumfries, home the Scotland’s national Bard Robert Burns is approximately 30 minutes away with his house, Mausoleum and the infamous Globe Inn, slightly further to the north is Ellisland where he farmed.
