"The village was a jewel with restaurants, pubs, and attractions within walking distance from our waterfront hotel. I would definitely recommend staying in the heart of the waterfront. The town itself is very walkable, and we were able to walk to an old castle as well as an old abbey. My husband and I enjoyed the friendly abs relaxing atmosphere of portpatrick."

"We stayed 3 nights in the Woodland House Hotel in Dumfries, recommended by friends who live close by. Our friends were wonderful tour guides for us in the area, and actually saw many of the sites we saw for the first time as well. Don't miss Sweatheart Abby, the Tea room next to the Abby had nice tea and scones/lunch, and the Corn Mill just down the road. We also recommend Caerlavrock Castle, John Paul Jones (considered the Father of the US Navy) House and museum, Ruthwell Cross, The twelve apostles stone circle and the Lockerbie Memorial site and Gretna Green (never heard of the very historic and sought after venue known all over the world!) All very fine sites very near Dumfries. 2 full, fun packed days learning great Scotish history and spending wonderful time with friends. An enjoyable time in this beautiful area of Scotland! 💗"

Hammy(short for Hamilton) the owner, gave me a ride to the train station upon my departure. I loved my visit to Stranraer & highly recommend this hotel. You won’t find kinder & more thoughtful service anywhere & the room was lovely."

Also the Fish And Chip restaurant along the road a bit passed the petrol station was excellent, one of the best Ive been to and not too expensive. The Italian manager obviously takes a lot of pride in his service."

The house was immaculately clean and so spacious. We met one of the owners(Tracey) and she was just fab. She was extremely helpful and friendly, and only a message away if we needed anything. All details were thought about and it felt like a home away from home. We all enjoyed the hot tub and had a BBQ. Location was great, right next to the train station which made it so much easier for our big family.

The hotel upgraded us on our last night in Scotland to the Romeo and Juliet room. It was a wonderful way to end our 40th Wedding Anniversary trip to Scotland! We had dinner and breakfast at the hotel both were great. We loved the old pictures of when Gretna was the "Las Vegas" of the old days. We also enjoyed the modern pictures or all the weddings at Gretna Chase.

Nice wee town with friendly staff in hotels and shops. Several hotels to stay, eat or drink. Pub, shops, Co-op, bistro, Moffat Mill for shopping, bakers’ shops for takeaway, chip shop. It's such a shame.

It's such a shame. The location and hotel are so beautiful but the experience is ruined by the feeling that they're doing you a huge favour letting you stay there. If you book through Booking.com they blame any problems on that fact, so when you dont get the "Extra-large bed" advertised or special requests made they refuse to do anything about it, explaining it's the websites fault. The staff dont seem to have ever seen how other hotels are run so get grumpy about requests and often things are broken, out of date and lacking in customer convenience. We've visited four times now due to lovely area, pool and dog friendliness but we are getting sick of the lack of quality and unprofessional attitude.

I went to fish and enjoyed the experience. There were a lot of rabbits on the site. But we paid a fair price and we're not disappointed. The caravan was well used but it reflected in what we paid. I'm happy enough. I'll go back again. Thanks.
