Friendly reception on arrival who gave us a free upgrade to a very nice room overlooking the garden. She made a great suggestion of where to stay at Portpatrick our next destination. Also a book with lots of walking options in the area. Dinner was great and an extra effort was made with the happy birthday dessert for my partner. Generous breakfast, the only weakness being the scrambled eggs.

A picturesque town set on the estuary with fishing boats coming in. Lots of lovely green spaces, colourful houses, historical buildings, art galleries, coffee shops and general shops. Children are well catered for with play areas, parks, skateboard park, tennis and swimming pool. A lovely friendly feel to it.

A lovely small town.Don’t expect bright lights and razzmatazz. It’s a tranquil, laid back place, without much hustle and bustle, it’s a town from a bygone era. The Scottish night Thursdays , is superb watching a pipe band and Scottish dancing on the town’s main car park. Limeded eating places so you need to book tables a couple of days in advance! You need to unwind to the town’s slow pace to really enjoy.

It is a great centre for the area but also a wonderful town.

It is a great centre for the area but also a wonderful town. It has lots of amenities and the layout is spacious with a nice centre by the Church and the harbour side. Lots of shops and cafes plus an excellent wine bar, a wonderful pub with literally hundreds of gins and whiskies and two small really useful supermarkets. It's very picturesque by the river and in the old town and has galleries and museums. The community is very active and very friendly.

Kirkcudbright is the sort of place where they roll the pavements up at 5PM - the town is completely dead in the evenings. There is one (good) restaurant but it only opens a couple of days a week. Two of the hotels serve meals, but one of them closes their kitchen at 7PM. Broughton House is worth a look (as is Threave Garden and Nature Reserve on the road north) but you're better off visiting them on a day trip and staying elsewhere overnight.

It is a cute wee town and everything is walking distance.

It is a cute wee town and everything is walking distance. It was interesting to see all the galleries and artist studios. I wasn’t there for long so I didn’t get a chance to explore some of the cute wee shops. We did visit the Tolbooth. Not too many pubs, but our favourite was the Masonic Arms. There are several cafes. My only disappointment was there are not many restaurants for dinner. A couple of Hotel restaurants which were full if you didn’t make a reservation far enough in advance. There is a fish bar which was highly recommended. We opted for one of the Chinese Takeaways (there are 2). I would highly recommend it. All the people i. kirkcudbright are very friendly.

We loved the little town.

We loved the little town. There were cafes and small gift shops but not too many. The small harbour has an outdoors "pod" that sells snacks prepared from fish/seafood from the days catch. Kirkcudbright has visitor attractions but they don't spoil the atmosphere of this wonderful little gem. It keeps it's integrity! The repaired statue by the harbour was the subject of a TV programme. It's to remember those who lost loved ones at sea. Definitely worth a look. Would recommend visiting Kirkcudbright!

Position. As it is a hotel and we were there on a Saturday night and our room faced the garden, the noise from the locals partying in the back garden was hard to bear. I think we simply chose the wrong hotel for us.
