Bonkle House,situated on the rise above the junction of South Calder River & Auchter stream was built in 1886 for a wealthy coal mining dynasty the Simpsons . It features an abundance of period details such as Intricate plaster ceilings,stained glass windows,Oak surround fireplaces,large bay windows & extensive wood panelling. It exudes period charm and comfort. Local history states it being the site of a small fort,named Dunanibher (Dun being Gaelic for fort). Through wrought iron gates, the driveway allows easy access and secure private parking for several cars. The mature gardens are lovingly maintained with several sitting areas for quiet contemplation, including an Edwardian Henry & Julius Caesar summer house with beautiful views over the rivers flowing by. Winding bluebell-laden riverside walks, afford an element of privacy and seclusion. International airports of Edinburgh & Glasgow are both 27 miles away.North Lanarkshire Heritage centre (10 miles ) and Falls of Clyde wildlife reserve (10 miles)and Chatelherault country park is 8 miles away .
