Boat trips can be taken over to Coquet Island, a RSPB bird sanctuary. Exploring is easy from here, with Alnwick only 10 miles away. Its castle is the location where some scenes were shot for the Harry Potter films, as well as the TV series, Downton Abbey. The town still has some cobbled streets and the Duchess Water Gardens are beautiful in the summer months, where you can admire the grand cascade waterfall and eat at The Treehouse Restaurant. The picture postcard village of Warkworth, 5 miles, is dominated by the castle at the top of the street. Continuing up the coast you will reach Seahouses and Bamburgh, and further on is Holy Island, where you can cross when the tide is out (check tides).
