Hello, we are Louise and Damian Orton. We are loving being the owners and managers at Kernock Cottages, in south east Cornwall. Our successful careers have been focused on delivering service to others, solving problems with innovation, and doing our best for our ‘customers’. Running Kernock gives us this same fulfilment and joy, and our outlook is simple – let’s give our guests the best possible holiday experience. We are Cornwall's Dog Friendly Business of the Year 20 25/26 and runners up in the Regenerative Tourism Category 2025/26. We have an excellent team who assist us, and their emotional buy-in to our customer service is unquestionable. We have 3 grown children who love to help when they can. There’s also our cockapoo Jaffa – who features regularly in our publicity. The beauty of Kernock is that you feel like you are in the middle of nowhere, but everything is within easy reach (we even have a Waitrose 4 miles away!). All within less than 10 miles are the beach, the moors, and Plymouth. There is lots to do locally too, or just stay at home and watch the buzzards soar over the valley from your hot tub! Set in its own orchard garden, Heather Barn is a spacious single-storey conversion offering accessible accommodation of the highest standard. The cottage is all on one level, so is perfect for the less mobile guest, for wheelchair users (National Accessible Scheme graded M3) and for toddlers. Both bedrooms are ensuite - bedroom 1 has a level-entry wetroom and stylish chrome and stainless steel DocM fittings. Bedroom 2 has a shower bath. In both bedrooms, the beds have pocket sprung ziplink mattresses and can either be arranged as a superking double or as twin beds. The large (480 sq ft) open plan sitting/dining/kitchen area is double height, with exposed beams, quadruple doors and a part-glass roof, creating a really light an airy space with great views over the orchard garden to the far hills. Private hot tub and secure garden to the side. Private parking for up to three vehicles.

The Kernock estate lies in the village of Pillaton, Cornwall, in the Lyner Valley on the edge of the beautiful Tamar Valley (featured on BBC Countryfile), between Dartmoor National Park, Bodmin Moor and the Rame Peninsula (known as Cornwall’s forgotten south east coastal corner). With fabulous moorland, country parks, beaches and unspoilt coastal towns, in addition to the glorious South West Coast Path, walkers are spoilt for choice within the area.
