A wonderful stay im a unique hotel with a lot of character to it. Our well appointed room was very comfortable; even though the rooms were converted jail cells (literally), we did not feel like we were hemmed in. The service staff was fantastic -- warm and personable. Loved the layout of the hotel. We had dinner here one night and that too was excellent. The self guided tour of the converted Bodmin jail was outstanding. I would highly recommend it to all hotel guests. The equipment in the gym was top notch. This was our BEST stay during our recent Cornwall trip.

FAQs about hotels in Cornwall

The Stuff of Legends

Inhabited since prehistory, Cornwall is characterised by a series by rocky bays, fishing villages and spectacular coastline. Right at England’s western tip is Land’s End where sheer cliffs descend into the Atlantic Ocean. Along the coast is popular St Ives, home to many Cornwall hotels by the sea on Booking.com.

Another fantastic beach resort is Penzance, while across the bay is St Michael’s Mount (not to be confused with similar Mont St-Michel in Normandy). Also boasting a wonderful beach is Newquay, though it is best known for its excellent surfing conditions.

Further north is Tintagel, the stuff of legends due to its association with King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. The remains of Tintagel Castle are perched dramatically on a rocky promontory, while inland on Bodmin Moor granite tors and stone monoliths only add to Cornwall’s feeling of mystery.

Heading north towards Bude the Cornwall beaches become longer, while on the southern coast Looe is a picturesque town curving around an inlet. To the east near St Austell is the Eden Project, huge domes housing thousands of plants from all over the world.

The county town of Cornwall is Truro, home to an impressive cathedral overlooking the River Fal which flows down to Falmouth Bay, a great spot to try some local Cornish ice cream.

A really lovely beautiful place, great beaches. I stayed at town lodge and it was close to everything. Shops like Aldi and ASDA are available incase you forget to bring anything with you, you can buy there. Lots of charity shops too. Every corner and every turn has a beach view. I was really excited to be there, didn’t feel like I was in the Uk hahaha. If you don’t have money for abroad pls visit Cornwall, Newquay you wont regret it!!!

Its quaint, busy and very small when you tend to stick to cities however the views beyond the town, the moorlands, bays and beaches are that typical Cornwall beauty that makes it so celebrated, We were lucky that our sons graduation took place during beautiful weather and would have liked to stay longer to enjoy the area. If I ever decide a Cornwall staycation is needed or simply need a place to relax for a long weekend I'll certainly be considering it given the warm friendly locals, sterling accomodation and so on. But if you dont like students or need a big night life its probably not for you.

The small port areas along this coast line are fairly unspoilt but difficult to get to, so you have to use outside parking then walk in. Parking prices not unreasonable, but you have to be prepared to travel along narrow country roads to each location with possibility of meeting a tractor head on as I did. It was a long reverse! Accept the fact of narrow roads and hilly terrain and it makes for an interesting holiday location.

Padstow is an excellent holiday location where you can visit a different beach every morning and then stroll down to the harbour in the evenings. There are plenty of expensive restaurants and clothes shoips to visit if you can afford it, but if not you can always go to the cheaper pubs and the charity shops in Wadebridge and St Austell. There is actually a park for dogs in Padstow - it's called the Rec and we did have to drive to it as it's on the outskirts and not well publicised. Padstow is a very dog friendly town and I think I only counted about 5 places where dogs were not allowed.

As I mentioned before, we booked our stay with our dog through Booking.com. However, we were refused accommodation with our dog, even though there were plenty of other dogs around the holiday park. It seemed that many other guests had dogs, so I don't understand why we were refused. Another issue was the neighbours, who were extremely noisy. During the first few days, our neighbours were very loud, and after they left, new neighbours moved in who were just as noisy. The staff did not seem to do anything about the disturbance. I would recommend the holiday park, but I would advise future guests to be careful when booking, as not everything is clearly explained and the booking conditions are not always clear.
