We moved from Warwickshire in 2011 to follow our dream of owning a Bed & Breakfast in a location that would allow us to enjoy the outdoors, we have renovated and decorated throughout and hope that you feel as at home in The Old Croft House as we do. As keen walkers, occasional cyclists and reluctant runners we feel lucky to have found ourselves in such a perfect area with stunning countryside to explore without the crowds of some more well known areas. We have explored the area by foot, by bike and by car and can help with ideas for a day out for all. Rachel and Nick look forward to welcoming you to The Old Croft House and will do everything we can to make your stay, however long or short, a relaxing and enjoyable one from tea and home made cake on arrival to a delicious breakfast to set you up for the day.

Property info

The Old Croft House dates from approximately 1750 and has retained many original interesting features such as 18th Century Oak panelling in the hallway. Since we bought the house we have redecorated and renovated throughout including refitting cornice and ceiling roses in the guest lounge, the perfect place to enjoy a rejuvenating cup of tea and home made cake after a day on the Coast to Coast walk or exploring the Eden Valley. We have decorated and furnished each of four bedrooms has been furnished in a style to complement The Old Croft House without compromising on comfort to make you feel at home. All the rooms have a digital TV, tea, and coffee facilities, hairdryers and free WIFI . The superior double has an ensuite bathroom with bath and shower whilst the double and twin rooms each have en suite power shower. The single room has its own private bathroom with shower cubicle and roll top bath just across the landing.

Neighborhood info

Kirkby Stephen is surrounded by the spectacular countryside of the Westmorland Dales, a largely undiscovered area of limestone pavements, hidden valleys and fells. This hidden corner of Cumbria is often missed by visitors but those lucky enough to arrive here will find an unspoilt, traditional market town situated on the River Eden, surrounded by the beautiful countryside of the Westmoreland Dales. Kirkby Stephen was the first town in Cumbria to be awarded "Walkers are Welcome" status and has a large network of well maintained local footpaths from our doorstep. We are well located on the routes of several long distance walks including Wainwright's Coast to Coast, The Pennine Journey and The Lady Anne Way. The Yorkshire Dales National Park was extended in 2016 and now covers the Westmorland Dales surrounding Kirkby Stephen, giving deserved recognition of the beauty and history of our favourite local areas such as Mallerstang, Wild Boar Fell, The Howgill Fells as well an amazing range of flora and fauna, with four nature reserves within a 5 mile radius of Kirkby Stephen including Smardale Gill Nature Reserve.
