Lovely character to building. Hadn't stayed in an upside down layout before. There was a bit if a heatwave on so having the bedrooms downstairs was very cooling.

The hosts thought of every need. The property is very comfortable but also beautifully designed and curated. We instantly felt at home here. It was warm and homely (despite the bad weather outside) and in a quiet location.

Company info

We moved from Kent to Little Howle Farm a couple of years ago and have absolutely loved hosting our guests. We are still exploring the area ourselves, which means that we can share our finds with enthusiasm! We take a pride in doing things properly and still get a buzz from shutting the door on a newly prepared cottage.

Property info

Little Howle farm was build in the early 1800's. The holiday lets were all working barns, which were renovated and turned into holiday lets approx 10 years ago. They have all been well thought out and are of a very high standard. We have thick stone walls and some original beams and frames, yet they are all somehow modern too. We live in the main farmhouse (one side of the courtyard) with the lets making up the other sides. Noise doesn't travel between because of the thick walls! It is an extremely pretty place to spend a very quiet time away. We overlook fields with the Malvern Hills in the background and occasionally have cows or sheep as neighbours. Howle Hill is a settlement a few miles from Ross on Wye. There are plenty of walks from the door, but you will need a car to travel to pubs/restaurants/attractions. A lot of our guests come here because they want to get away from it all and completely relax. Others want that, but also want to be able to enjoy everything the area has to offer without being in the thick of it. Rivington Barn is a stunning, bright, comfortable cottage. It is very well equipped and furnished to a high standard. The living area is on the upper floor, bedrooms & en-suites on the ground floor. Both bedrooms are large rooms, with plenty of room to move about and both bathrooms have generous size baths. There is underfloor heating and also a gas, log effect fire in the lounge. There is a good size kitchen and a separate dining area with table and chairs. There are games, many leaflets and information on the local area and suggested walks in the unit under the TV.

Neighborhood info

Most of our guests want to enjoy everything the area has to offer but want to come back to a quiet, relaxing base. We have a lot of walkers come to stay. We have several families who return to us because, they find their children enjoy going into the Forest of Dean and have fast internet to come back to. Our favourite walk/view point is Symonds Yat and King Arthurs caves nearby. Our favourite food pub is Ye Old Ferrie Inn, also in Symonds Yat. Our best restaurant is The Potting Shed at Whitchurch - the owners are somewhat eccentric, but that just adds to the charm! I love the river and canoeing, Kayaking, paddle boarding and cruises past the Yat are all on offer during the summer months. The Forest of Dean has so much to offer, including Go Ape, segways and cycling in addition to the many trails. There are so many quaint towns and villages around. Ledbury and Monmouth, amongst my favourites. Ross has a great selection of shops, cafes and bars. Hay on Wye is close by for book lovers
