Really nice staff; coffee maker wasn’t working in the morning so no coffee but I believe that was out of the hotel’s hands. The bar in the evening was lively and friendly.

We had a wonderful 2 night stay. Great Ayton is a beautiful Yorkshire village. The staff were friendly & helpful. Our room (Cook) had a spacious bedroom and bathroom with modernized facilities. The ‘Yorkshire Breakfasts’ were terrific.

Nice place to stay in a pretty village. Good range of tasty food in the restaurant (which gets very busy - book a table!). Room was spotless and roomy.

With our cosy log fires, beamed ceilings and rustic charm, the Royal Oak offers excellent cask ales, fine wines, home cooked food, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. On the edge of the North York Moors, the Royal Oak is the perfect place to call in for coffee, a pint, a delicious meal or to stay the night in one of our ensuite hotel rooms. We have two bars and a Garden Room, open all day every day with food served from 10:00AM to 9:00PM. We also welcome dogs in the Bistro bar, the courtyard and some of our hotel rooms
Simon and Katie Fletcher, and Chef Paul Steele are the recent new owners and welcoming hosts of the Royal Oak Hotel. Simon and Paul are already very familiar with the pub, having first worked here together 25 years ago. Having carved out successful careers in Customer Service and cooking in award winning restaurants, they have reunited to embark on this exciting new challenge together. They are delighted with the support and encouragement of their customers so far, and look forward to welcoming you to the The Royal Oak Hotel
The attractive village of Great Ayton is situated on the banks of the River Leven, on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors. It was the boyhood home of the explorer Captain James Cook, who went to school in what is now the Captain Cook Schoolroom Museum. The graves of the Cook family can be found in the churchyard of the ancient and beautiful 12th century All Saints Church. The village also plays host to some charming shops, as well as the famous Suggitts ice cream shop, and Petch’s Butchers.
