The Gate Lodge is owned by Keith and Carrie-Ann and has formed part of their home since they moved to the area in 2014. Until 2025, the lodge was retained solely for family use as a private annex to the main house, which is why it has been so carefully maintained and thoughtfully presented. As a family living in this beautiful rural setting, Keith and Carrie-Ann value the peace, scenery and surrounding countryside that make the Pant Valley so special. Much of their time is spent enjoying local walks, nature and village life, and they are always happy to share recommendations to help guests make the most of their stay. Their aim is simple: to provide a warm welcome, complete privacy and a consistently high standard of comfort so that every guest can enjoy The Gate Lodge as a true countryside retreat.

The local area has lots of walks, footpaths and bridleways on its doorstep to enjoy the North Essex rolling contryside. We are a only short distance to the nearby historic villages of Finchingfield, Great Bardfield and Thaxted which have lovely country pubs, restaurants, tea rooms and local independent shops. We are only a short drive to the market town of Saffron Walden which has lots of historical buildings and tourist attractions such as Audley End House, the castle (ruins), museum, gardens and the town centre common. We are only a 15 minute drive from the Suffolk and Cambridgeshire borders and are very close to the cities of Cambridge and Chelmsford which are approximately 35 minutes drive. Bury St Edmunds and Colchester is a 50 minute drive by car. We are also only 20 minutes drive away from Stansted Airport. Our property is suited to couples (or close friends) and sleeps only two persons with a king size bed. Our property is strictly pet and smoke free.
