Near England's highest peak Scafell Pike, scenic lakes, quiet, beaches and spectacular coastline, this characterful, beautifully furbished 170year-old cottage combines traditional comforts with Smart Home ‘Alexa’ technology, 4K TV & fast broadband. 3 min walk to an award winning Inn/restaurant. Opened 2019 The Tree House Cumbria - Traditional interior with modern touches. Pet friendly. Stunning master bedroom. Wood burning stove. Large private rear garden with summer house, decking areas and a swing. Lovely village setting. Great fully equipped kitchen. 2 pets allowed. Sleeps 6 with the sofa bed The cottage is more of a tree in a house than a house in a tree (we're not sure how it got there!). This spectacular natural 'sculpture' provides the focal point of the living room and is wrapped by a wooden spiral staircase which leads to the master bedroom. Inside accommodation comprises a romantic spacious double bedroom with cathedral-style, vaulted ceiling and comfortable seating areas with views over the garden. Downstairs there's a small, well-equipped bedroom with full-size bunk beds for two people. The cottage will comfortably sleep four but there's also a luxurious sofa bed so there's a potential to sleep six (as long as you're good friends)
Peter and I have been walking and exploring the Lake District since we first met in the 70's and still find new places to enjoy, we hope you will love the area like we do.
Nearby are some of the most spellbinding areas of the Lake District, less frequented by tourists but revered by climbers and connoisseurs of the Lakes. All the highest peaks including Scafell Pike, Great Gable and Pillar can be accessed from Wastwater, a 20 minute drive from the cottage, whilst the quiet shores of Ennerdale and Loweswater offer tranquil views and scenic walks. For very different landscape, the unspoilt Cumbrian coast is just three miles away with its dramatic sandstone cliffs at St Bees Head, its spacious and quiet beaches, cliff-top walks, and historic towns including the Georgian 'gem' town of Whitehaven and historic Egremont, whilst the 'hotspots' of Keswick and Cockermouth are within easy reach. Don't miss the great Muncaster Castle or Ravenglass Railway, both close by. Obviously, you won’t have to go far to discover the delights of Beckermet. The name derives from “the meeting of the becks”. Beckermet is a very old settlement and its church, St John’s, dates from Norman times. Following the Conquest, the hamlet was on the route of plundering Scots for 200 years and the site of an ancient castle stands on two small hills above Ker Beck on Mill Lane. A short stroll out of the village in a south westerly direction takes you to the lonely St Bridget’s church that dates from the 13th century. The graveyard is the bearer of no less than two National Monuments – an Anglican and Anglo-Scandinavian cross shaft which are pre-Norman with an inscription. The White Mare Inn is a short walk away to the village centre opposite the newly refurbished children's playground. There's great local atmosphere in the traditional bar area, outside seating and a great restaurant.
