The house is beautiful furnished with heirlooms and high quality appliances. It is cosy and warm with comfortable beds and linen. The location is perfect for walking out to many footpaths; the old packhorse route is particularly good. Lovely...

This 18th century stone cottage and adjoining barn was recently restored. It comfortably sleeps 6 in 2 twin bedrooms and a double bedroom. In addition to the small, private paved garden there is a large shared, award-winning garden that includes a mill pond, stream and waterfall. The quality of the furnishings, mainly antiques, can be appreciated from the photos, but special mention must be made of the Georgian mahogany 4 poster bed with its wooden carved ceiling. Cupworth reservoir on the moors can't be seen from any roads and is a steep walk away along the ancient pack horse route though the woods. It is pet friendly, great for children and has a metered EV charging point.
Most important to me are my grandchildren. I am very involved in the education of the 2 girls who live close by and also have 3 grandsons who, until recently lived in Luxembourg, but just returned to Huddersfield. I first trained as a musician and once my children had both started school, I retrained as a landscape architect. Now retired, I am an enthusiastic gardener, a pianist (accompanist) and am also involved in a limited amount of charity work.
Despite its secluded setting, Tyas Cottage is very close to numerous attractions, as well, of course to the moors and Pennine Way. The cottage is well suited for hiking and bird watching as there are many local walks on open moors or in sheltered valleys. The TV series, “Gentleman Jack”, has hugely increased interest in our nearby Shibden Hall. Don’t miss the link on the website by the historian who worked on the coded and sensational diaries and letters of Ann Lister for the past 32 years. Other popular destinations for all the family include Tunnel End in Marsden and the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. The penultimate village before the Pennines, Slaithwaite is charming, vibrant, and well worth getting to know, perhaps via a picturesque walk alongside Merrydale stream. Slaithwaite railway station is on the Newcastle to Liverpool route and the M62 is also within 10 minutes journey time. Teenagers sometimes travel by train to Manchester, Leeds or York, while their parents prefer to go on moorland or rural walks. Roughly mid-way between Scotland and London, Tyas Cottage is often used for family get-togethers.
