The owners, Mrs Theophano (or Fani), a lawyer and her daughter Elena, an architect, share a passion for art, history, classical music and poetry. These passions have shaped the character of the hotel and have given it its name, art hotel. Fani fell in love with Monemvasia in the 1970's and continues to be inspired by this unique place. Elena did the restoration work on the buildings as well as the design of the adjoining Chrysafitissa square.

Theophano Art Hotel’s name expresses that in addition to providing high quality accommodation, we wanted to display our family collection of art and antique furniture. The collection ties in with the buildings, and invites guests to enjoy it both in their rooms and the hotel’s common areas. The common areas are an important part of the hotel as the accommodation is extended outside the individual rooms. The hotel offers a breakfast room and a lounge overlooking the sea. There is also a shady veranda, a roof terrace with panoramic views and smaller lounges where guests may play board games, read, use the internet. These spaces are also used for events of different kinds. In the past we have successfully hosted poetry readings, art exhibition and classical music concerts! In our hotel no two rooms are the same making every stay a whole new experience for guests. The rooms differ in terms of architecture, views, orientation, size and balcony. Thanks to the above, guests forget that they are in a hotel room and find themselves immersed in the warm atmosphere of a mansion house. The hotel’s location on the square of Chrysafitissa, the largest open space within the Castle, is stunning.

The hotel is located on the square of Chrysafitissa, the largest open space within the Castle. The square lies between the sea, the fortification walls and the south edge of the settlement and is designed by the architect and co-owner of the hotel, Elena Zabeli. The square was completed and made open to the public in December 2015. The paving was done with local traditional materials and is shaped into long pebble gutters which direct rainwater out through holes in the fortification walls. Various sculptural installations adorn the square: marble slabs engraved with verses from the Monemvasia born poet Yannis Ritsos, steel Byzantine calligraphic letters on thin stems and large cannonballs for sitting or playing. Once there, the visitor can directly enjoy panoramic views of the sea, the historic fortifications and the traditional settlement.
