Villa Svolis was built as a family home. For those who love the sea like us, the house is a revelation, as it is located directly on the sea. With its large glass windows and doors the sea is visible (and audible) from every room, at any time. All bedrooms on the upper floor have access to a balcony. The first floor connects the house with the garden and the beach through a large terrace. The terrace is protected from sun and wind and is the ideal place to gather friends and family for a big meal. In the house itself it always stays cool and the cold marble floor brings pleasant refreshment in summer. To the house belongs a 6000 square meter property, which encloses a picturesque sea bay. In 15 steps you can walk from the house to the beach. The property is mainly planted with olive trees, but also grows orleander, vine, figs and all kinds of herbs. Directly on the beach there is a wooden deck that can be used for sitting. The trees provide shade. The perfect place to start each day with a coffee in hand and a view of the sea. Peculiarities - Good to know before you book: Cats To the house belong 2 cats: Pip and Moo. They live outside, but like to pay us a visit now and then. Mostly because they are hungry. So they are part of the inventory. They are vaccinated, dewormed and neutered and very (child)friendly. If you are allergic to cats this home sadly isn´t for you :( Water Our house is still supplied by a water tank, coming from an external source. It doesn´t happen often, but if you are running out of water, we will inform the water truck. Normally he ́ll be there within an hour. Power Cut Power-cuts can occur in the summer due to higher power demand. Usually, it is a few hours at most, but it means that the water supply cannot function.

My father, a Greek living in the UK, built Villa Svolis for his family around 1987 - as a place to retreat from our busy lives in London and to keep in touch with our greek roots. He wanted to buy a plot of land in a place that was not overrun by tourism and was right by the sea. He fell in love with the land at this lonely bay near Karystos, built the house on his own and made sure that his children would have a home in Greece as well as not lose access to the people and the Greek culture. It now belongs to the myself, Peter Svolis. I am a film director and I live in Berlin, Germany. Villa Svolis still fulfills the same purpose: for us it is the perfect retreat, a holiday home for family and friends. I feel a strong connection to both Greece and especially Karystos, where we have many friends and where we get together every holiday possible.

Evia is an island known to many Athenians as a quickly accessible weekend destination - but to many other tourists, the second largest island in Greece is completely unknown. For those who like nature, the area around Karystos has some fascinating natural beauty, and offers wonderful hiking and biking possibilities. Speak to the locals and they will tell you about secret beaches and hidden Tavernas behind Karystos. Of course we will gladly share our favorite places with you too.
