Such a pretty garden and the staff and the other tourists are so lovely. We had an amazing time there, far away from all the famous tourist hot spots. The view and the location right next to the beach in the junge is stunning.

Company info

A unique aspect you can find at Coco Bamboo Beach Camp is a door to the bamboo and cacao world. The place is connected to several cacao farmers in the region and if Laurence, the co-owner, is present she can share a lot about her work with cacao. On the other side, we have bamboo on the land, and Elisa, our other co-owner, is a bamboo architect and social activist. *We do not recommend people this hostel if: You want luxury. You don’t want to be bothered or speak with other guests. You want to party and like to put loud speakers. You don’t like animals (we are an extra pet-friendly space) You don’t like natural environment and can’t stand mosquito We recommend you this hostel if: You love simple living You want to go off-grid You love permaculture or would like to know more about it Getting your hands dirty during your vacation sounds exciting You want to explore new things You want to meet more people You want to share music around a fire You thrive in nature

Property info

Coco Bamboo Beach Camp is a small eco-paradise directly on the Caribbean beach of Guatemala. We have a camping ground with tents and small cabins for renting. We aim to create a relaxing and enriching space for travelers to enjoy the ocean. We believe in community, sustainability, wellness, and cultural exchanges. We are quite off-grid, located in a small village. Make sure to plan a few days here as its a bit of a stretch to get to (or a great stop on your way out of Livingston). We offer breakfast, lunch, and dinner on-site in a community meal style with a bar open until 10 pm. We do not accept parties or loud music but rather encourage bonfires, game nights, live music and good conversations. There's public boats passing by that can connect you to Livingston or Puerto Barrios. We can also arrange private boats and day tours. On site, we have 3 kayaks, some paddle boards, a private white sand beach, an ocean to enjoy, a small bar front for drinks, and a food forest in the backyard. We are also developing a small permaculture farm focused on cacao. *Be aware* The property is quite off-grid. It is a well-worth adventure to come here and the place itself is a destination with its own beach, farm, and community. We recommend staying in Rio Dulce and Livingston to visit local attractions and complete your trip here for relaxation, beach life, and community living. From Puerto Barrios boats are available all day until 5 pm (50Q). From Livingston, there is a daily boat leaving at 11 am on week days from the gas station (50Q), we can reserve it for you. Public boats can sometimes stop by here but they usually don't like it when the ocean has too many waves; the earlier, the better. Private boats to-from Livingston starts at 150Q Be aware that when there is a storm, it isn't possible to come to our place by boat. (We cancel free of charge).

Neighborhood info

Coco Bamboo Beach Camp is located in the small village of Santa Maria del Mar. The city of Puerto Barrios (the closest airport) is located about 30 minutes away by boat or 60 minutes by car. The village has a small shop for snacks and you can find a few nice beaches on the way. You can also keep going with the boat to Livingston, Rio Dulce, Playa Blanca, and all the amazing offerings Izabal has to offer. Be mindful that there's no ATM in the village and we only accept cash! We believe in the power of connection. Join us for our regular activities: Free Offerings: Morning Activities: Every morning at 9 am, we begin the day with an activity shared by our volunteer team (it changes daily). Farm Morning: Join us at 10 am for farm work and learn about permaculture. Beach Time: Our private beach is available for swimming and relaxation. Game Nights: Enjoy board games and unwind. Fire Nights: Gather around a beach fire, and feel free to bring your instruments! Extra Cost Offerings: Bamboo Workshop (Q100): Learn bamboo craftsmanship and make a souvenir. Cacao 1-1 or Group (Q100 per person): Share a cup of cacao with Laurence (co-founder of Cacao Source) and explore cacao, dreams, and connection. Kayak: 1 hour: Q50 / 3 hours Q100 Paddle board: Q20 1 hour / Q50 3 hours / Q100 for the day
