Our suite is located on the first floor (Piano Nobile) of a venetian renaissance palazzo that was built in 1580 in what was the main square of the town at the time - the Piasa Granda (Big Square). The building, called Palazzo Basilisco after the surname of the family, is one of the finest examples of renaissance architecture in the city, as it was built entirely in white pietra d'Istria (white istrian stone) and 'faccia a vista', which means the stone was processed with care because the facade was not meant to be plastered. The suite can be accessed from a communal staircase that leads to the different floors of the building from the main door at Montalbano 1 st. The space was carefully designed to fit a small entrance with a bathroom, and a room facing the square and Montalbano street. The high wooden ceilings, the carefully carved stone windows, the green shades and the view of the square will get you back to the venetian times. We chose to refurbish the room in neutral colours and surfaces, using custom-made furniture only, in order to enhance our ancient pieces - the bed, the chairs, the table - which we carefully restored to its original beauty.

I am an architect, an amateur silkscreen printer and ceramics enthusiast. I studied and worked abroad for many years (Italy, Spain, Austria, Germany) before moving back to Rovinj - Rovigno to start my own business adventure. My family has lived in Rovinj - Rovigno for many many generations and we are very proud of our beautiful mediterranean pearl, which is why we always try to share our locals' knowledge and tips about the town and help our guests make the most of their experience of the city.

The Piasa Granda (Big Square) was the main square of the town up to the end of the 18th century, when the town was connected to the mainland and transformed from island to peninsula. Therefore, the location could not be more central to visit the main attractions (the Grisia street, Santa Croce street, the church of S. Eufemia, the Balbi arch), to have a walk around the old town and get lost in its narrow streets, or have a quick swim at Monte like a local.
