FAQs about hotels in Istria

Land of History, Sun and Wine

The land of stony beaches, sapphire seas and rocky mountains, Istria is the largest peninsula of the Adriatic Sea. It’s a popular tourist destination famous for its cuisine, weather and wine.

Istria has been a part of many powerful empires: the Byzantine, Roman, Venetian, Austro-Hungarian and more recently, Yugoslavian. Each of them has left an easily recognisable mark on the architecture, giving you an opportunity for a crash course in the region’s fascinating past just by travelling around.

The Brijuni Islands are a must-see for that reason. They were once President Tito’s private property with a large zoo, over 200 dinosaur footprints and a never-ending stream of international guests, including heads of state and Hollywood film stars.

Located near the Brijuni is the largest city of the Istria region, Pula, best-known for the beautiful Roman architecture and tranquil countryside surrounding it, as well as for its winemaking and fishing traditions.

Whether you’re visiting Pula or other towns like Pazin, Porec or Opatija, make sure to visit local restaurants and try Italian-influenced dishes with famous Istrian peppers, truffles and seafood. Finish your meal with grappa or a glass of sweet wine - the best comes from the Kalavojna region.

Istria is a diverse region and Booking.com offers equally diverse properties. From boutique hotels to comfortable apartments, you have a range of nearly 600 properties to choose from.

We had a wonderful stay at Camping Mon Perin in Croatia, in the San Polo Prestige Mobile Home. The mobile home was new, stylish, and perfectly equipped for six people. I especially loved the spacious terrace — it even had air conditioning, just like all the rooms inside, which made our stay really comfortable during the hot days. The mobile homes are well spaced out, giving you a nice sense of privacy and plenty of room to relax outside. The swimming pools were clean and well-maintained — great for both kids and adults. There are bars and shops conveniently located within the camping area, and prices are quite reasonable compared to those in nearby towns. A special bonus: every Wednesdays and Saturdays, we received a bag of fresh vegetables (tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, eggplants) — such a nice touch! Our kids especially loved visiting the animal farm where they could feed the animals. We got fresh towels every three days, which was very convenient. The beach is rocky and pebbly, but with special water shoes it was easy to walk in and enjoy the sea. Overall, it’s a fantastic place for a family vacation — peaceful, well-organized, and full of thoughtful details that make your stay special. Highly recommended!

Our vacation in Poreč, Croatia 🇭🇷 at Valamar Diamant Hotel turned out to be such a fun and truly relaxing trip — absolutely stress-free! The hotel itself was amazing 🏨, offering plenty of in-house activities, while also being very close to great attractions like the beautiful beaches 🏖️ and Aquacolours Water Park 💦. Special recognition goes to the staff who made our stay extra memorable: Nada at the dining entrance, whose warm and welcoming smile was the perfect start to every morning; Meda, the pizza chef, for his dedication, speed, and quality of preparation; and Stela & Zehnomir, who showed remarkable openness, care, and warmth, especially towards the kids — truly the right people at the right place.

My friend and I are both avid beach goers, and harbour swimmers. The resort is in a great safe location with activities for people of all ages and abilities. If you don't enjoy the beach and taking a daily plunge before relaxing in the sun perhaps this is not for you. Once you have settled in to your apartment there are only a few decisions that you have to make each day. You can self cater (from the nearby supermarket ) or eat at the outdoor restaurant open from morning to night at a time which suits you. If you are booked in at this gated resort, reserved parking is available, Otherwise casual daily parking outside the area can be problematic. If you want to drive around the resort area during the day to go to supermarket etc a gps is good to have as the roads are narrow and not always signposted . Driving into Pula itself takes around 25minutes and gps essential. Google Pula Parking before you leave the resort. Pula township is well worth a visit.

Poreč is a beautiful and charming destination with a wonderful combination of history, culture, and the relaxed atmosphere of the Adriatic coast. We love exploring the historic old town, strolling along the waterfront, and enjoying the many restaurants, cafés, and shops within easy walking distance. The town has a lively atmosphere without feeling overwhelming, and there are plenty of beautiful places nearby to explore as well. We especially appreciate being able to experience the history and character of the city while also enjoying the sea and the slower pace of coastal life. We visit Poreč whenever we are in Croatia, and it is never a disappointment.

Novigrad (Citanova in Italian) is very nice old town with its interesting history as its the whole Istria at the end. It is a charming place. From Novigrad are organized ship cruises e.g. to Porec, Lim, and Rovinj. Very nice day trip which I would recommend. Also the areas around Novigrad with all the wine yards, hills with truffles and olive trees is interesting to visit. From Novigrad Port you can also take small "train" which takes you to the surrounded beaches and resorts. If you like adventure go and make some early evening walks along stony sea shore and walk to the left (Novigrad) or right (to Dajla) form e.g. Amines Planet resort.

Vrsar used to be a small town with a charming harbour, and it could certainly become that again. The food served at the dozen or so restaurants along the harbour promenade is well prepared, but unfortunately they all have more or less the same menu, which makes it a bit dull. The area is very hilly and is not suitable for anyone who has difficulty walking.

This is an incredibly beautiful area and a unique nature reserve that you can easily reach on foot, by bicycle, motorbike, or car. Premantura and Kamenjak offer countless beaches, wild coves, and fascinating spots to explore – and every single one of them is unique in its own way. When planning your day, it is highly recommended to consider the location of the beaches (west vs. east coast) and the time of day, keeping in mind the position of the sun and shade. A big advantage of the area is the ability to park very close to the beaches. Additionally, some of them feature beach bars or basic toilet facilities (ToiToi portable toilets). In the end, our personal favorite was Dražice Beach. It has a very gentle and pleasant entry into the water, which was perfect for snorkeling and stand-up paddleboarding (SUP). For longer stays by the sea, it also provided a wonderful escape from the heat, offering plenty of shade under the nearby trees.
