Betelnut Eco-Lodge Sumba is a beach front paradise. We are tucked away from the main power grid in the remote Kodi region of Sumba, offering an all inclusive, self-sustaining way of living shaped by nature rather than modern life. Solar energy provides lighting and basic power, freshwater is drawn directly from the river, and meals are cooked slowly over gas and fire using food that is either grown in our garden or sourced locally. Off-grid living here is about choosing what truly matters. Instead of excess, the focus is on comfort, warmth, thoughtful layout, fresh air, ocean swims and surfing, and uninterrupted views. Minimalism is not a sacrifice, it’s what allows deeper rest, better sleep, and a sense of ease that comes from fewer distractions. Our name, Betelnut, honours the betel nut chewing tradition, a sacred cultural practice symbolizing hospitality, connection, and community across generations. In Sumbanese culture, sharing betel nut is an act of offering, welcoming, and deepening relationships, much like the experience we invite you to embrace here.

When you stay at Betelnut Eco- Lodge Sumba, you become part of a living community not a tourist passing through. Daily life unfolds around us in our local village, offering genuine connection without staged experiences or touristic performance. Our neighbours will often invite you into their homes to share a coffee and their life. We are situated on a tropical reef lagoon so you are able to swim year round in beautiful, warm waters. For those who are interested in water activities we have surfing, snorkling and fishing available. Nearby we have the well known traditional Sumba villages of Wainyapu and Rattengaro, which are an easy walk down the beach. On our property we encourage you to slow down and savour your time with us. To help with that we have hammocks and bean bags scattered all over the property, as well as a beach front bale to lie and watch the sunset. Further afield there are options for daytrips to the beautiful weekuri lagoon, waterfalls, and innumerable empty beaches.
