Beautifully situated cottage in the Comeragh Mountains. Sleeps 2/4. An area of stunning natural beauty with beaches just 20 mins away by car and numerous ancient monuments and castles within an easy 1-2 hour driving distance. The cottage is set in an old farmyard, and is surrounded by about 3 acres of fields and gardens. You will be able to enjoy seeing our ducks making their morning dash to the pool in the garden - and their more leisurely wander into bed at night. The cottage is very secluded but not isolated. We have delightful neighbours who are all farming families. The area where we live is also known as Sliabh gCua (pronounced Schleeve Gooa), and is renowned for its traditional music, played for locals by locals, and its dancing – our local Sliabh gCua Set dancers and musicians having won many honours at national level. The standard of music from our youngsters is incredibly high. We hope that you have a really enjoyable stay in our little cottage and that the Deise fulfils all your expectations.
We are delighted to be returning to renting our property for people to enjoy a holiday here. We had rented it permanently for a while, mainly because the need for accommodation for Ukrainian refugees meant others had to leave their properties to make room for others. We are keen hill walkers and have lived at Bleantis for over 25 years. We moved from England to Ireland in 1996 because we wanted a freer life style, beautiful scenery and a relaxed pace of life. We also knew that the people of Ireland still set great store by the ability to sing a song, dance a set, recite a story, or play an instrument, and that really appealed to us. And not for one moment have we been disappointed! Bleantis Mountain is our own private playground since you will never see other walkers there - it's not on the tourist maps! You can walk directly from the cottage up a tiny lane onto our mountain. There are no 'official routes in the Comeraghs, (you choose your own!) but we can give you very specific guidance on the what, where and how, relating to walking in the mountains. We will also lend you detailed maps of the area for your stay. We have trained our (very quiet, obedient but fun!) very friendly black labradors to find people who are missing, particularly the elderly and children. You can have as much, or as little, interaction with the dogs as you choose. They won't bother you in any way.
Bleantis Mountain Cottage is located on a small bohereen (or lane) which leads directly onto Bleantasour Mountain (part of the Monavullagh range) just 1 km away. On Bleantasour mountain are panoramic views of the Knockmealdown mountains to the west, the Galtee mountains to the north, and the Comeragh mountains to the east. From here you can either roam across the Monavullagh mountains themselves or trek across the 'tops' to the famous Nire Valley or onto the craggy Comeragh mountain range. This particular area of County Waterford is called the Deise (pronounced Day-shur). Its inhabitants are particularly warm, generous, tolerant and laid back and the local harbour town of Dungarvan has a very relaxed and happy atmosphere where complete strangers will greet you on the street. Additionally, the Ring peninsula on Dungarvan bay is one of the 6 Gaeltacht locations in Ireland, where Irish is spoken as the first language. So it is quite common to hear Irish being spoken in and around Dungarvan So all in all we reckon that you've stumbled on one of the best kept secrets of Ireland - the Deise, with its stunning coastline and mountains ,rivers, valleys, lochs, music and song.
