Welcome to Dan Rua’s Cottage, A cosy cottage nestled in the heart of Ireland’s Lake District. In 1 hour from Dublin airport the cottage is situated on our family dairy farm, we are a 10-minute walk from the shores of Lough Sheelin and nearby Crover House Hotel. The stone cottage was previously home to Dan Rua. Completely renovated the cottage it is back to full life, with 4 acres of land hosting home to our younger friesian calves, providing a traditional Irish Cottage Setting.

I live on a family dairy farm in Co Cavan. We milk about 100cows and have a BnB less than a mile from the shores of lough Sheelin. Professionally my career has been in engineering, where I managed Civils projects across Scotland and Real estate developments in San Franciso. Living the dream. I enjoy spending my winters working in the Alps, along with travelling the globe when possible. The cottage is located a 100 yards form our family home, so we are available if you have any queries about the area or would like recommendations for restaurants or places to visit locally.

Located in the heart of Ireland, we are surrounded by lakes, woodlands and medilic tombs. Lough Sheelin is an internationally acclaimed trout lake and provides some great fishing. These trails along the shore leading up to Crover House hotel, which bar overlooks the lake. The Hotel also hosts a 9 hole golf course. Heading in the other direction and still overlooking Lough Sheelin, Mullaghmeen forest park, covering over a 1,000 acres is the largest in Western Europe. Spotted from the view of the cottage you will see the medilic tombs, outside of Oldcastle on the horizon. Due to the location, a car is necessary for getting around however the lakeshore and Crover House Hotel is within 10-15minitues walking distance. Being close to the M3 (Cavan-Dublin) motorway, we are conveniently placed for getting to Dublin or the airport (1 hour) without having to pass through the city. Being in the centre of Ireland, we are able to provide a great location for day trips to neighbouring counties. Completed recently, the stairway to heaven in the Cuilcagh mountains Co Fermanagh, and a trip to New Grange Co Meath.
