BASIS Mountain House is located in a quiet area surrounded by spice plantations and rainforest, at about 1,000 metres above sea level. From the house, you can see far across the valley. The rooms are bright and open onto a shared atrium. The property is a peaceful base for hiking, yoga, meditation, or small group seminars. The property is run by BASIS, a company with over 30 years of experience organising travel in India. It has received several international awards for travel quality.

Neighborhood info

The surrounding nature is simply breathtaking — lush greenery, spice plantations, and open views across the valley. Nearby, you can visit a beautiful waterfall and explore the Western Ghats, one of the world's most important biodiversity hotspots, home to over 5,000 flowering plants, 139 mammal species, and 508 bird species. Many animals here are shy and rarely seen, but their presence adds to the quiet magic of the place. The area feels calm and untouched. On clear days, you can even see across to Tamil Nadu in the distance. Here, there is a real sense of space and openness — a place that brings real quiet, and time to slow down. Please note: while Periyar National Reserve i.e. the Forest borders our property, the official entry point/reserve entrance is about a 30-40 minute drive away. We're happy to help arrange your visit and timing in advance.
