Most hotels today are designed for efficiency. Large buildings. Standardised rooms. Experiences that look similar everywhere. Sarayu was imagined as the opposite. A smaller, slower retreat where the experience feels rooted in place. A few cottages built with only natural materials. A café and bakery where food is simple and fresh. Open spaces where guests can sit, walk, and simply be. The goal was not to impress, but to create a place where people could genuinely slow down.
Sarayu began with a personal change. After years of working in the corporate world, life began to feel increasingly fast, digital, and disconnected from the physical world. Around the same time, losing people close to me quietly reshaped how I thought about time and what truly matters. Living in the city and doing the same thing week after week was starting to feel like I’m trapped. The mountains offered something different — space, silence, and the possibility of building a life that moved at a more human pace. What started as a personal move slowly turned into a deeper question: What kind of place would I want to create here?
