The construction of Silverstone Mansions over 25 years was inspired by the magnificent location of Manali, at the foot of the Rohtang Pass and a profound appreciation of the skills of the traditional craftsmen and women. Behind each architectural element lies a story. Each stage of the building has been painstakingly and minutely personally supervised. From sourcing and transporting the local mica-rich stone from a neighbouring hillside, the finest deodar and walnut timbers from the local Kullu Manali valley and selecting the superb granites and marbles for which India is famous, We have sought out the most skilled craftsmen,- temple wood-carvers for the main entrance doors, highly specialised stone masons to do justice to granite work surfaces and traditional marble flooring designs and the most skilled carpenter family for ceiling and wall wood- panelling, parquet flooring and hand-made furniture.... all complimented with the finest tradition of Indian embroideries fabrics and furnishings. Our vision was to combine the enduring stone and wood components of local building techniques with the luxury and comfort of a modern “home from home” We look forward to sharing this unique part of Himachal Pradesh with you, our valued guests.

I (Navrang Thakur, Owner- Manager), was born and brought up in the remote Miyar Valley in Lahoul on the far side of the Rohtang Pass. My wife Christine Thakur was born and raised in Wales UK. We met when as an independent traveller on a career break she was trecking in the Indian Himalyas. We love meeting new people and personally discovering India's rich and varied archaeological and architectural heritage. Over the past 30 years, we have been fortunate in being able to indulge our passion as world travellers and have visit many countries in Europe and South East Asia as well as Australia, The Americas, Africa and Canada.
