This host is a bit of a nomad, who has stayed in the ravines of Chambal, the little Rann of Kutch, the wilds of Parambikulam ... basically he like to brag about doing all of India - 10,000 kms in 20 days. Aging has made him retire a fair bit early much like the prodigal son returning to his roots in Kerala. His wife who is no less a nomad, with a keen eye for the arts, she treasures the handicraft that the artisans of India produce and a veracious consumer of all that's handcrafted from fabrics to sculptures of wood, stone and terracotta.

_AUTHENTIC TROPICAL GETAWAY_ Get away from the cacophony of urban life and unwind in the tranquility of tropical backwaters. Laze around in a dip pool, snooze away or read a book on a hammock, or explore the idyllic surroundings canoeing, biking, or walking, the choice is yours. *THE PLACE* The over-an-acre property abuts the quiet backwaters of river Pampa, and is located in Champakulam, Alleppy, a place endowed with incredible natural beauty. There are three tastefully styled cottages. The rooms are equipped with modern creature comforts and accented with _retro_ and _eco_ ambience. Hardwood furniture, hurricane lamps, palm leaf ceilings, Malabar tiled roofs and other subtle details would take you back in time to a bygone era when life was much more peaceful. Two of these cottages have private dip pools surrounded by lush tropical gardens and bamboo fencing. The outdoor spaces are covered by a canopy of tropical trees with open sunlight spots for sunbathing on traditional day beds. The _al fresco_ dining area is on the edge of the river, adding to the exhilarating tropical charm.

There is plenty to see and do in the area including a 5th century church that has one of India’s oldest stone crosses dating back to the 12th century. You can drive, bike, or walk through the paddy fields and coconut groves, and get a first-hand experience of local traditions. For the more adventurous, you can rent a traditional canoe or a kayak, and paddle down some narrow canals along the village and paddy fields, and catch a glimpse of rural life. Or you can indulge in a spot of night fishing, lay back on the hammock and read a book, or just sit back and watch life in this water world in slow motion. It’s up to you.
