La Locanda del Mare is located on the beachfront at La Ciaccia, just a stone's throw from Valledoria, in the Gulf of Asinara. The property is a 50-minute drive from Sassari. Buses to beaches at Stintino, Isola Rossa and Costa Paradiso stop just 150 metres away. Located in the Gulf of Asinara, north of Castelsardo, Valledoria sprang up in 1961 from the merger of a number of hamlets of Castelsardo and Sedini, on what was once the site of the old Roman city of Codes. The place name means Valley of the Dorias, the family of Figurina nobles who built a castle here to defend their property in around the XIII century, which today towers over the valley crossed by the River Coghinas. Over the last thirty years, Valledoria has been opening up to tourism, thanks to the building of a number of accommodation facilities and the enlargement of the services offered to tourists, who can find enchanting beaches and plenty of entertainment here. Furthermore, the village is an excellent starting-point for short trips to see the historical-artistic and natural beauties of the North of Sardinia, and the same wild landscape that frames the little village.
